Is the Saratoga in ST-IV and ST-DS9 the same ship? I know they're both Miranda ... is it possible they're the same? (And if not, why?)

They aren't the same, because the STIV-Saratoga had a rollbar and they have different registries.

The rollbar could've been removed during a refit. That alone wasn't proof ...

I doubt that 1937 is the correct NCC.

The first edition of the encyclopedia gives 1867 for the STIV-Saratoga. This has also been confirmed by targetemployee in an earlier topic:

Well mothballed starships can get a new life and a new registry, there's no wrong in that.
During WWII some ships changed names a dozen times.
You know the Star Trek rule, don't you? "Just because it wasn't shown doesn't mean it didn't happen"...

Well, there's also that DS9 third Saratoga, but its registry and class is unknown

No it is not.

In the DS9 Novel 'Saratoga', a Miranda-Class USS Saratoga, NCC-31911-A is constructed at Utopia Planitia.

In a 7th Season episode of DS9, the starship Saratoga is mentioned in passing. (What episode was it? I don't remember.)

The novel "Saratoga" sucked. Michael Jan Friedman, who was once a very good Trek novelist, pretty much ripped off the plot of the first TNG hardcover he wrote (the title escapes me).

Essentially ...

TNG

The crew of the STARGAZER reunites on the ENTERPRISE-D for whichever reason. It turns out one of the STARGAZER's former crewmembers is trying to kill their former comrades. Turnips fly as Picard must confront his former officers.

SARATOGA

The surviving crew of the SARATOGA are reunited aboard the DEFIANT, which is en-route to the christening of the new Miranda-Class SARATOGA. It turns out one of the SARATOGA's former crewmembers is trying to kill their comrades. Turnips fly as Sisko must confront his former officers.

I knew that.

I loved Reunion, my copy is even signed. But Satatoga seemed forced, and was, honestly, totally uninteresting (especially since it was a pretty blatant rip-off of Reunion)

Addition of incenidary device: if one were to follow the stock image used of the Excelsior docked at Upper Pylon 3 that was shown so often in S7, it's "reachably inferred" that the "new" Saratoga was actually an OLD Excelsior-class Saratoga recommed for the war. Y'know..the same theory for the Farragut using the same stock image.

Unless someone wants to let us play Whack-A-Mole by popping up their head & stating that Excelsiors are still in 70000-series production. Even I don't buy that one.
