This is from Bernd's site, listed as an unknown Akira-class ship. Does anyone know where this comes from?

Posted by Aethelwer (Member # 36) on :

It's a mis-reading of the Thunderchild's registry.

Posted by The359 (Member # 37) on :

It was what everyone originally thought the registry number was for the Akira class ship in First Contact, although we now know it is the USS Thunderchild NCC-63549

Posted by The Mighty Monkey of Mim (Member # 646) on :

Okay, wait a minute. Here's what I know:

The U.S.S. Thunderchild's registry is NCC-63549.

The U.S.S. Spector's registry is NCC-65549.

The two registries were accidentally swapped in the Fact Files.

But where does NCC-63646 come from???

Posted by USS Vanguard (Member # 130) on :

I think they just told you that. it's a misread of the thunderchild's registry. i guess the starships: expanded list just hasn't removed it yet.

Posted by The Mighty Monkey of Mim (Member # 646) on :

Oh, wait. I think I get it now. You're saying that YOU guys (the viewers) misread it. I thought you meant it was misread in the Fact Files or someplace...

Okay, Nevermind...

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

It was misread by someone who posted it on the Internet, and it spread from there as people simply accepted it since there was no better source.

Posted by Aethelwer (Member # 36) on :

Also, the 65549 is an error in the encyclopedia....the Spector was invented by the Fact Files.

Posted by Reverend (Member # 335) on :

no, the spector was in "Message in a Bottle" (VOY)

Posted by The Mighty Monkey of Mim (Member # 646) on :

It was the U.S.S. Rabin (NCC-63293) that was 'invented' by the Fact Files, but it still counts anyways.

Posted by Aethelwer (Member # 36) on :

How do you know the Spector was that ship? The name wasn't visible, IIRC. Either way, it certainly didn't have the registry that the Fact Files suggests.

Posted by Reverend (Member # 335) on :

Well one of them was in "Message in a Bottle"
the other one may have been from DS9 somewhere...possibly that one that went into a spin over Chin'toka.

Posted by Aethelwer (Member # 36) on :

Proof?

Posted by The Mighty Monkey of Mim (Member # 646) on :

Oh, no! You're not gonna pull that 'proof' one on us, are ya?

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

Frank: You're asking for proof from someone who thinks the Fact Files are canon? Seems quite the exercise in futility to me...

Mojo said that the Akira in "Message in a Bottle" was actually the Thunderchild... remember he also said that the two Defiants were BOTH labeled "Defiant"?

Posted by Veers (Member # 661) on :

I like to believe that the Akira was the Spector, and that the Defiants were both new ships we haven't heard the name for yet. One is labeled the Defiant, but I don't think it is, and the other can't be the Sao Paulo, it was launched sometime during or after "In the Pale Moonlight."

Now, how do you know that?

Posted by Spike (Member # 322) on :

Maybe because of the stardate on the dedication plaque.

Posted by Peregrinus (Member # 504) on :

It/they could still be one or more of the three other Defiant-class ships we saw in "Call to Arms".

Oops. Forgot they put stardates on dedication plaques. . . B(

Posted by Veers (Member # 661) on :

Forgot what the stardate was, but I know it was close to "In the Pale Moonlight." (Actually, it's the only stardate mentioned in the sixth season)

Posted by Spike (Member # 322) on :

Message in a Bottle -> 51462
In the Pale Moonlight -> 51721.3 (There were 7 stardates mentioned in Season 6)
Sao Paulo -> 52889.3

So they'd just gone and launched it, named it for the people of Brazil, and then said "sorry, Brazil! This bald guy who runs and sulks in his dad's kitchen whenever a friend of his dies wants to change the name to Defiant!" Or maybe they just said "fuck Brazil!"

Posted by Veers (Member # 661) on :

Oops. My mistake. I thought that "In the Pale Moonlight" was the only one. It was close to it, though.
And why rename a ship? I liked it when it was called the Sao Paulo. And they went and renamed it "Defiant." I guess an adjective is better than one of the world's most populous cities in a hot, sweaty, South American country.

Posted by Stingray (Member # 621) on :

Oi. Get over it people. I'm sure the people of Sao Paulo said, "They changed the name of our beloved warship!! Blast this interplanetary peaceful federation!! I know, lets make our OWN interplanetary federation! We'll name ALL the ships Sao Paulo! And nobody will stand in our way of galactic domination! MUWHAHAHAHA!"

I mean, really.

Or, maybe, Starfleet arranges to have another ship named USS Sao Paulo for the people of Brazil. A deal maker?
Capt. Sisko gets a Defiant and Brazilians get a Sao Paulo. I am curious as to what class the new Sao Paulo would be.

Posted by Reverend (Member # 335) on :

Why Sao Paulo-Class of course

Posted by PsyLiam (Member # 73) on :

A Miranda. And the people of Brazil revolted.

Posted by The Mighty Monkey of Mim (Member # 646) on :

LOL, Psy!

Posted by Veers (Member # 661) on :

No, due to budget limitations, they take the "Merchantman" hulk from Qualor II. They christen it the Sao Paulo.

"Sorry," says Admiral Jenkins, "But it's the only ship we can offer, even if it's been blown up many times. You can use it as a waste barge."

And Brazil seaparates from Earth and the Federation in disgust.

Posted by Vogon Poet (Member # 393) on :

Well, I seem to remember a post at the time the ep aired which basically said "how dare they name a precious Defiant after a city of wops and dagoes? Thank God they changed the name!" TPTB obviously took note, too, because every ship seen or mentioned in the last three years of Voyager was named after a decent, God-fearing, All-American town, city or state with minimal wetback presence.

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

Wow. Wops and dagos? That must be worse than just one or the other.

Oh. Wait.

Anyway, wouldn't São Paulo be full of let's think about this... Brazilians, maybe?

Posted by Vogon Poet (Member # 393) on :

Yes. I was quoting, not stating. Since I can conficently say I'm the only person here who's even been to Sao Paulo. . .

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

Yes, I know you were quoting. And I was mocking.
