I also got this:

It was hovering in front of the USS Enterprise-D. I havent seen the show, so, anyone who knows? What is it?

Round?

Weird. In "Symbiosis", the only space objects were two planets and a star, plus the easily recognizable freighter "Sanction". What the episode *should* have had was probes, since it opened with the Enterprise probing an interesting star. But no, Picard chose to fly the entire ship to that risky approach for some reason...

I'll check the tape by Monday.

A UFO!?!

It's quite obviously the Death Star after it has started to go grey from the stress of continuoisly being blown up.

Hey, who would win in a fight between the Death Star and the Enterprise anyway?

Posted by Siegfried (Member # 29) on :

The Enterprise would whip the Death Star's ass because Star Trek is awesome and better than Star Wars. What's more interesting is a battle between the Enterprise and her Type 12 phasers and Mark 9 quantum torpedoes and tricobalt devices against the 170 meter long Valiant-class Defiant and her Type 7 phaser cannons and torpedo systems.

Yes, I was deliberately highlighting some of the significant Trek debates of the past three years.

(Valiant-class?)
HOW DARE YOU INSULT THE STAR WARS UNIVERSE! YOU WANT TO TAKE THIS OUT ON THE STAR WARS FORUM? Star Wars is by far a better series, they have faster ships, better weapons, better FILMS AND BOOKS (which are all official and canon, in comparison to Star Trek). The franchise has made millions more, and no Star Trek film has ever made more than $200 million. All the SW movies are in the top 15 hits of all time! I would not care if George Lucas crushed ST with the billions he has. Star Trek would not be like it is today without ILM and SW! The Death Star would fire one turbolaser and blow up any Prometheus class vessel! Siegfried, you and I have become bitter enemies !

Star Wars is dumb.

Posted by Siegfried (Member # 29) on :

Oh, great. I just provoked an angry rant from a Star Wars fanboy. I've become bitter enemies with Veers! The horror! The funky horror!

I swear. It like everyone has gone into an extreme mode of violence. Everyone just needs to settle down and suck on some helium.

Star what?

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

I seriously hope that was a joke, Veers. If it was, you need to work on your delivery. If not, you desperately need a life...

Posted by Veers (Member # 661) on :

It seems the Star Trek geeks are mad...

Posted by PsyLiam (Member # 73) on :

We're mad?

Posted by MeGotBeer (Member # 411) on :

Uh-oh. The Star Wars geek is insulting people.

Wait -- why is a Star Wars geek browsing a Star Trek BBS?

Posted by Veers (Member # 661) on :

You can't blame people who have the there! And I happen to like Star Trek, just that I like Star Wars more.
So there.
What's this about the Valiant-class? When did that debate come up in three years?

Posted by Siegfried (Member # 29) on :

The Valiant-class debate started pretty much with the release of a book called Deep Space 9: The Continuing Mission (I believe that's what it was called, anyway). This was a behind the scenes look at Deep Space 9, and on the section for the USS Defiant, the book called the ship a Valiant-class vessel.

This sparked a debate that lasted for many years (pretty much until the phrase "Defiant-class" was used in one of the final chapter episodes from Deep Space 9). I was a lurker on the BG Trek Zone forums at the time, so I remember some of the heated arguments. Because this one book said "Valiant-class" a faction decided that this was the gospel truth. The others held to the belief that since the Defiant was a prototype, then the prototype carries the name of the class.

In the end, the "Defiant-class" faction won. But it was a bloody battle with many casualties. However, this battles pales in comparison to the great Defiant Length Debates.

By the way, Veers, if you did intend that rant to be a joke, you really do need to work on the delivery.

Go away Veers. Far away. Far, far, far away. Preferably, in a galaxy a long time ago.

Posted by Veers (Member # 661) on :

What? Maybe the "bitter enemies" part was somewhat a joke, but the rest were my true feelings. A superlaser could destroy a Prometheus, SW has made billions more than ST, George Lucas is all powerful and mighty, and in my opinion is a better Sci-Fi achievement than ST. That was not a joke.

Posted by PsyLiam (Member # 73) on :

I can't believe I'm doing this, but...

"A superlaser could destroy a Prometheus"

The superlaser (what a stunningly original name) could destroy anything. Of course, the original one could only be used on planets, and the second one still required a lengthy charge up time. The Death Star being able to destory a planet was A Big Deal. The Defiant could destroy a planet. There were only two Death Stars. There are potentially loads of Star Trek ships that could level planets.

"SW has made billions more than ST"

That's not an argument of quality. The Lost World made more than Jurrasic Park, ir memory serves. Yet it's inferior in almost every way.

"George Lucas is all powerful and mighty"

Most of the jokes I want to put in would cause small children to scream, but I will ask, don't you think that Lucus is maybe, just maybe, a one hit wonder?

"and in my opinion is a better Sci-Fi achievement than ST."

George Lucus is a Sci-Fi achievement? What is a sci-fi achievement? Are we basing this on how many people watch it, or something more?

Your previous post also said that the Trek movies wouldn't have been possible without SW. Star Wars likely wouldn't have been possible without the original Trek series.

And, for a follow up, incredibly fun plot oversights from the Phantom Menace. Shock! George Lucus isn't infallible.

Ummm...

Marshal Veers: You are hereby demoted back to General.

Sorry.

I personally like Star Wars quite a bit and I dare say just about as much as Star TRek. But I don't think you were very smart to be so blatant. You really can't compare the two anyways, so there's no point in screaming and arguing about it.

Apples and Oranges,
The Mighty Monkey of Mim

"I can't take this abuse much longer!"
I was never some lame Soviet rank of Marshal, MMoM. I was always Admiral. I will not bow to your will, or anyone else's. So, "Damn you. Damn you all to Hell!"

You said that SW has made more money than Star Trek ever will. I wonder what kind of fan you are if value the success of a series on the basis of how much money it has made. I’d like to see SW go through 4 lengthy series and numerous movies and still remain popular and successful.

Posted by Veers (Member # 661) on :

Cease this torment at once! I was merely stating a fact. I never once said that that was the reason I like Star Wars more. Never. It is true, but the reason is that Star Wars has, shall we say, better writing than Star Trek. IN MY OPINION. Got that?

Posted by PsyLiam (Member # 73) on :

You know, I do really, really like Star Wars, but if I was going to post any sort of argument defending it, the last thing I'd want to bring up is the writing.

Posted by MeGotBeer (Member # 411) on :

Which, oddly enough, is also what people use to boast about "Babylon Five."

"Oh, man, they had great writing..."

They may have had good story ideas, but the dialogue is as wooden as my desk here.

Posted by Veers (Member # 661) on :

Oh come on, DS9 had good writing, but there is no way Voyager's writing was better than SW's. I can come up with better dialogue for Voyager.

Posted by Sol System (Member # 30) on :

I used to think these sorts of threads never actually happened.

Posted by PsyLiam (Member # 73) on :

True. It's like one of those things that everyone knows happens, but no-one has ever actually seen.

Perhaps it is a sign. Perhaps we should start up a Enterprise vs Defiant thread. And Borg vs Dominion. And a Death Star vs Enterprise. And Death Star vs Unicron. And Unicron vs Defiant. And Transmetal Megatron vs BM "sugar pot" Megatron. And JeffK vs Dolph Lungren.

Posted by The359 (Member # 37) on :

I'll put $20 on Dolph!

Unicron vs. Dolph caged heat free-for-all. Winner takes on Simon "Spearchucker" Sizer.

It is obviously a planet.

That's no planet! That's a...

oh, wait, we already had this discussion

Posted by Siegfried (Member # 29) on :

If that's a planet then the Enterprise-F would be able to turn it into space debris before the Death Star X would even be able to power up her superlaser.

Anyway, what was the original topic of this thread? I've forgotten after the many twists and turns.

Shhh... You're ruining the illusion that this is the Spacebattle forum...

This is the Spacebattle forum... The Spacebattle forum... Continue the rediculous versus debates! William Shatner's tupee vs. millicondreas or whatever those blasted little things in Jedi blood are called. 20 to 1 odds!

Okay, I have gone to several high quality web-sites, all written by people with far greater grasps of the English language than me, and yet they still type "rediculous".

Has Dubya write it this way once, and now everyone else has to write it like this to avoid upsetting him?

It's riadiculous. We don't do that in Brittain.

Since the little round object's identity may never be solved, let's talk politics...
Let's just say, PsyLiam, you're lucky you don't live here in America under George W.'s hand. The Missile Defense system, the stem cells, the electric chairs and the guns everywhere. He's going to ruin the country! Citizens! Band together and commit a coup against the president! And get Dick Cheney out, too!

Posted by Michael_T (Member # 144) on :

Are you sure it isn't a planet. It looks like Aldea from the episode that kidnapped all the Enterprise-D children.

Posted by Sol System (Member # 30) on :

Why, just yesterday I was walking down the street and tripped right over one of those dastardly electric chairs! Then I was accosted by a gang of grandmothers.

Posted by MeGotBeer (Member # 411) on :

Veers:

Chill, dude. Besides, Bush and Cheney'll be out on their asses in ... what is it, forty-two (forty-one?) months until the next election ... ?

Tsk. Tsk.

Now, now, children, we wouldn't want good ol' CC or somebody to deport us to the dreaded Flameboard, would we now?
