Great title, eh? I want to know once and for all:Is the story about the U.S.S. Crazy Horse NCC-50446 and the U.S.S. Pegasus NCC-53847 originally being described as Cheyennes in the scripts true? And were did the story come from, anyway?

I'd heard that too, about the Crazy Horse. The registry number and the fact that the cheyenne naming sequence was supposed to involve Native Americans supports this. I also heard the the Lakota on DS9 was named intending it to be Cheyenne. Those ships just have bad luck getting on screen. Seeing as the Pegasus was supposed to be a new class ship, i assume it fell victim to the same Miranda-Soyuz problem.. they just decided to reuse the Oberth model because they didnt feel like designing a new ship

I don't know about the Crazy Horse, but according to the TNG Companion, the Pegasus was originally supposed to be a ship from the Ambassador-class design era. Sternbach did some sketches of a new ship, but the budget forced them to use the Oberth-class model.

I've always liked that one, too. It went into a level of detail that rivalled some "professional" books I've seen. (No, you can't have my copy!)

I've been on eBay and managed to get Starfleet Dynamics and new copies of Ships of the Star Fleet, which i lost.. good stuff, and more fun than some of the sad little 'official' books they put out

I would if I could. Unfortunately, I don't have a scanner, nor does anyone I know. Sorry.

CaptainMike...What are you looking for out of it? It is not a very accurate account of the Cheyenne Class...I think the stuff on Bernd's pages do the class more justice. Art

When did you say this book came out? I spotted it once in Hannover in the late nineties but spent my D-marks on a DS9 poster instead. I then saw that Jim Stevenson's site (RIP) had a drawing of the DS9 "Emissary" Saratoga lifepod, attributed to this manual and apparently claimed to be standard gear aboard the Cheyennes. If the attribution was correct, the book would seem to be post-"Emissary" rather than post-"BoBW"...Timo Saloniemi

I just assumed post-BoBW because that was the origin of the Cheyenne.. it was a second hand copy at a dealer in 96 at the Takei-Doohan-Nichols-Koenig 30th anniversary show, so i guess post-DS9 is likely.I was wondering about internal details, continuity references , etc.. i know books like that like to describe missions and might have some list of names for other ships of the class

The copyright on my copy says first printing was August of 95.

Hmm.. that would place it somewhere between the airing of Emissary (in 93) and my attending he con (in 96) It all makes perfect sense, continuity-wise*Mike.. this wasnt a continuity argument.. those were things that actually happened* Oh, God what have I become...

The manual is one of the sources quoted by James Dixon in his timelines. There are about two or three dozen Cheyennes listed there, all with native American names and registries from 50000 to the 71000 range. I seem to remember Dixon also included a fair amount of technobabble. I'm too tired to dig up the direct link now, but Ex Astris Scientia links have the timeline under "Dave's Holodeck/James Dixon Files".Timo Saloniemi
