Can anyone direct me to a picture of Voyager's "Friendship One"? In particular I want to see the insignia on the side of the ship.
Thanks.

Thanks. I looked at Bernd's, but not hard enough, I guess.

Hmmmm....so, apparently the arrowhead insignia was representative of the organization first then given to just the enterprise...then back to the organization just before TMP...

I think the producers probably believed that the arrowhead was always the symbol of Starfleet, even during TOS. Of course, some of us here might even agree with that...

TOS never existed.

Maybe the Friendship One-arrowhead was the mission symbol (just like every space-shuttle flight has its own symbol) and Enterprise (1701) used it to honor the famous probe. Besides this, the nacelle clearly reads UESPA, not Starfleet.

Most likely the Enterprise insignia was derived from the old UESPA logo to highlight the scientific nature of the vessel.
On the other hand it's possible that starships at that time bore the symbol of the institution they were permanently assigned to, so a couple dozen different ships could have shared the old UESPA delta where as the other ship insignias we saw were derived from other such institution (Vulcan Science Academy, Bolian Merchant Navy, Andorian Stellar Probe Agency) so when all of these were finally intergrated into a single unified Federation Starfleet in the 2270s a fleet wide symbol based on the old UESPA logo was used...not much of a theory I know but a theory none the less.
Oh and Masao, I have a larger version of the Friendship One markings I did for the Valient if you'd like to have it.

I didn't realize that people thought the Starfleet symbol pre-TMP was anything other than the little yellow part of the banner below:
http://www.trek5.com/caps/tos/39_MM/pages/39_MM-014.htm
. . . a design on other starships and on the walls behind admirals and commodores when the Enterprise was talking to Starfleet Command.

Really? I don't recall seeing the boomerang delta anywhere else except on the original Constitutions and the Raven. Do you have screen-caps to back this up?

Sure, Rev. Either email it or post it here. Thanks.

For the SF Command "banana," look at this page under Admiral Fitzpatrick. http://home.arcor.de/spike730/starfleet_officers/canon/officers_f.htm

I started a thread about this very fact a long time ago... I'll try and fish out the nice screen grab I had of the 'boomerang' from "Court Martial".

That matches the shape on the NCC-1701's pennant stripes, natch.

I wonder if that glowy-window shape was intentionally the same shape, though. Perhaps it was another instance of 1960's 'cool'.

Did you notice the main body (middle section)? There are some tiny words written where you would expect the 'USS Starship United Federation of Planets'. And those are five words, probably saying United Earth Space Probe Agency. I only mention it bacause the nacelle label is a bit irritating; why did they add the -1 to UESPA? Is that some sort of registry? There's another thing written in the front part of the ship, just behind the large dish. Any thoughts what it could be?

After seeing that pennant close up, I think it's really ugly. Perhaps in an attempt to "please the fans," they've managed to cram together a modified UN crest, the Enterprise shield, and the post-TOS Starfleet banner. It's a platypus (no offense meant to platypi)
Thanks for posting that Court Martial cap, Andrew.

I wonder what other recent attempt to "please the fans" Masao could be alluding to.

TSN, I had it on my hard-drive... and put it up in my account's web-space... (I had previously taken it down... the thread was like months ago).
Can you remember which website did those caps? Or was it someone on here that did it after I mentioned the episode... gee It must have been last time TV1 here in Australia did a Star Trek marathon (season 1), they just had a season 1-2 marathon here this weekend. Fuck TOS is sooo good. People just don't realise.
