Where do these names (as ships) originate? Famous Royal/U.S. Navy ships?

John & Edward Rutledge were American patriots & public officials during the Revolutionary War era.

So probably not an RN ship then...

There isn't a Renegade in Jane's and I don't recall hearing the name. Probably was one in WWII; sounds more RN than USN.

Or they just said:
"Hey, Mike, we can't think of a cool name for this ship."
"How about 'Renegade?'"
"Yeah! That's a good one!" [Wink]

I agree that Renegade sounds more British as far as a ship name goes.

SO, there havn't been any famous fighting ships named Rutledge? Why does it sound so familiar?

What about "Republic"?

Named after Plato's book, I'd imagine.

Rutledge always maked me think of Rutland, which is in south central Vermont.
