But, unfortunately, it did little good. DOes anyone know for who or what the Yamaguchi was named? I know it's a city in Japan, but it's also a hugely common name. Are there any really outstanding scientists/etc. with this name? I thought maybe it also might be a Paramount personnel, but according to the appendix in the Encyclopedia there was no one named Yamaguchi on the production staff.
Anybody have opinions/ideas?

There are no Japanese naval vessels with the name Yamaguchi, so it isn't that. My guess is the town, if anything.

Um, wasn't there an Olympic ice skater named Kristi Yamaguchi? That might've been the inspiration, at least at the Trek Art Department. (Although I doubt that Starfleet would've named one of their starships after one relatively insignificant athlete from four hundred years previously.)

I bet you didn't reasearch it.

Wasn't the Yamaguchi already around before she was famous?

Maybe they misspelled Tamaguchi, the electronic pet thing?

That was Tamagachi

Wait, DS9's The Emissary aired around 1993, after the 1992 Winter Olympics. Anyway, does anyone know how to copy an image from the Season 3 box set of TNG? Greg Jein had still pictures that shows the battle damage USS Princeton from the side.

Gaak! It's "Tamagotchi"!
I don't know any famous Yamaguchi's. I don't think there's been any Nobel laureates. Yamaguchi is the name of a prefecture (state or province) on the western tip of the main island of Honshu. Maybe Mike Okuda's family came from there?

1992 would be the Barcelona Summer Olympics, not Winter Olympics, right? (Lillihamer was 1994?)

Is there an anim link to Yamaguchi?

I know Okuda's from Hawaii, but he's not a Hawaiian Hawaiian! His family probably emigrated from Japan in the late 1800s or early 1900s. So, they might have originally come from Yamaguchi prefecture. Of course, we also have several other ships named after Japanese islands and cities, so who knows?

Edit: The only Yamaguchi I can find associated with manga or anime is someone named Teppei Yamaguchi, a voice actor. The name Yamaguchi is perhaps best known in Japan from the Yamaguchi-gumi, the biggest crime syndicate or yakuza gang in Japan (sort of like the Gambino family). Maybe Okuda's a wise guy.

Hello? Excuse me? Just what is this all about? I haven't heard this before. Are you saying that there's a picture of the Princeton that's different than the one pic we've all seen?

*alarm goes off*.. fanboys rush out of bed and grab helmets and slide down the pole of the Fanboy Fire Station..
we have a new W359 pic?!

Damnit... in the Season 3 box, Greg talks about how the production crew built a 4 foot Galaxy Class with more detail and compared the 6 foot nacelle on one hand and the 4 foot nacelle on the other to see the difference. Then a slide show appears with pictures of the models he built. I saw the Enterprise-C, some alien vessels, and the Princeton. Greg definately had some 4 foot molds left over to build some starships.

So I'm taking it that this was a scene on the DVD itself, & you're asking if someone could make a screencap of it.
So, since you saw it, Michael T, could you perhaps describe what you saw? In extremely minute detail, if you'd be so kind?

1992 was both the Barcelona summer Olympics and the Albertville winter Olympics. That was the last year both the summer and winter Olympics were in the same year. After that, they only waited two years for Lillehammer, then stayed on the four-year rotations that keep the summer and winter games staggered.

I'll probably get Season 3 on Friday. I'll post the caps then, unless someone is quicker.

And no, that person is not Brannon Braga. At least as far as I know.

Wow. I mean, wow. That's just fucking awesome. The only thing that could be more awesome is if I received a reply from Robert Legato (which so far, I haven't).
Ok, let's get back into Wolf 359 research mode...
1. Masaki Taniko stated that when he saw the model at the convention, both the deflector and the shuttlebay were blown away. Seems he was right.
2. The nacelles look to me to be re-positioned into the one-nacelle-above-the-ship's-centerline shot that was shown onscreen. Or is it just me?
3. The pylon connecting the lower nacelle seems to be much thicker, shorter, and less angular than the upper pylons. It almost reminded me of the submarine conning tower pylon from the Challenger model.
Now I wish there was a still shot of the Firebrand. I guess you can't have everything...

*dreamy voice* Wow, that was one of those suprise moments... confirming my belive that the two nacelles were on top, that the pylon was thicker, and it was a real modle, not a miniture like this guy at SCN said. A suprise moment,*end dreamy voice, change to really funny story voice like the time I took my watch off in four months, seeing it perfectly outlined on my skin, how the tightness had left scars in my arms, and recoling from the horror of the stench of all that sweat escaping... boy howdy, now I tell ya what... *starts rambling aimlessly*
