During the long CG shot of the romulan capital - am I the only one who noticed two shuttles that looked like Senator Vreenak's shuttle from DS9? Furthermore - what else did we see? There seem to have been some (or better: at least one) Scorpion-class fighter as well. And the romulan boats, of course (must be the first alien ship ever in Star Trek... ). So, can anyone confirm the shuttles? Would be nice if there had been a small DS9-reference besides the generic Dominion-War line we're supposed to hear from time to time.

The DS9 shuttle is shaped a lot like a warbird, while the ones in the film looked flatter and more rectangular.

They were heading away from the point of view, my attention was caught by the nacelles. I can't remember if they had the Warbirdish nose, but the rear section looked familiar.

I don't think those shots from the trailers are the finals (take the spacedock shot for example: the one from the trailes didn't show any workbees or hull damage). I can't remember their exact position, but they were close to the 'ring' around the senate, to the left. I'll probably go and see the movie again this week, so I can check that again.

What I thought was really vcool about the senatee shot was that it looked darn close to the matte painting we saw from time to time in TNG and DS9. I've always thought that city was way cool and I thought they did a really good job with the cgi version

I get a kick out of the design of the city, too. Here we have emigrants from a desert world setting up their capital like a bloody Venice, with the downtown spanning a bay that looks like an ideal place for a harbor.
And they built the thing knowing there would be internal conflict - the sweet spot of the downtown is a huge citadel, with a perfectly symmetrical yet probably ancient wall erected around it. That citadel must have been there in the original city plans, and it sure wasn't built against natives or wildlife...
And even if we forget such fannish speculation, the matte and the model evoke all the right associations. This is the kremlin of the evil east, with its familiar walls and towers. This is the typical akropolis of antiquity, but with the round shape of the decadent colosseum of Rome. And this is the center of the spider's web, with spokes reaching out to all parts of the quadrant.
I don't buy into the complaints that the Senate Hall was too modest a set, either. It's just to be expected that the ruling elite of the Romulan society would be a small group indeed, fitting easily into this austere room. These people were Vulcans originally. Extravaganza wouldn't be their style.

Back to topic: I've seen the movie a second time. The good news: There are even more shuttles, and none of them appear to be a Scorpion. The bad news: I wasn't able to make out the two ships any more clearly. It appears that only the person responsibe for that shot can tell us what we've seen there.
