Over at trekbbs , they are discussing his work. I have his book, and I also have screencaps of them However, Ive never seen the dreadnought. Now, someone claims to have seen it. Faltorpan, on his web page claims to have it. To me, it looks just like a connie, how about you? Anyone got any clearer, bigger caps from the dvd?

Looks a lot like a regular Constitution to me. I don't think there's 3 nacelles in that picture.

I got the ole Franz Joseph Tech Manual, and honestly it looks like the deadnought, but yet it doesnt. The secondary hull looks the same, which is different than that of a Constitution Class and I think the nacelles are overlapped because they really dont look the same as those of a Constitution Class. Whichever the case I think the 'on screen' is highly distorted whether it is a Constitution or Federation (Dreadnought) Class.
What are the A, B, C, D? supposed to represent?

FalTorPan's conclusion is obviously grounded on the specific labels on the page that was pulled straight from FJ's SFTM. He may be right with that.
But then an almost philosophical question arises. If we see an ordinary Constitution even on DVD stills (the best we may ever get), this would somehow mean that the SFTM, rather than the design, which is not recognizable as such, exists in the fictional universe.

Oh! I see it now! That IS the Federation.
It's the overview of all four designs. This is the bottom part, with the Hermes/Saladin and the Ptolemy.
This is the top part of that page. It shows the Constitution, and *above* that, the Federation in just a dotted outline. That's why it doesn't really show up, but the text surrounding it does.
This also means that people who don't like the Federation design can still safely ignore it

The good ol' Federation class...
That design doesn't make sense to me Oh, sure, I understand the idea behind the third nacelle, but what exactly that extra dish is supposed to do? Deflect all stellar matter that is trying to catch up with ship?
Good catch, Harry, btw

The two big dishes are sensors. One of the small dishes is the navigational deflector and the other small dish is the tractor beam.

I believe that the technical manual specifically says 3 space warp drive units, but nothing says that there is a single pylon from the center-line. Am I missing something, or could that pylon be thick, or could there actally be two pylons in an A frame, like the Larson design.

The top and fore views clearly show one nacelle on one centerline pylon.

So long as it's just the outline I can keep on trucking with my Re-designed Entente Perhaps the original FJ design is just an early version of the ship like the Nova concepts in the tech manual or the early Intrepids in Sternbach's magazine article. (I know none of it is canon but you see what I'm getting at)

The best cap you can possibly have is the actual page from the SFTM...

Harry, by "The best cap you can possibly have is the actual page from the SFTM..." I take it you mean the actual book? I do have that, in fact, on my webpage I have big scans of these ships. But I would like a dvd cap of the same image as the one I linked to at the top of the page. However, I would like it not to be so "grainy", know what I mean?
