In the first part of this episode before Picard gets the Code 47, Riker calls him and tells him he hsa a Code 47. Riker was just on the bridge in the last scene, and the background didn't look like the bridge, and it didn't look like the ready room either, where was it?

ohh, I just watched that one, but I don't remember. I'll have to pop the tape into the VCR again when I'm at my Mom's tomorrow. Could it have been the Observation Lounge?

Posted by Malnurtured Snay (Member # 411) on June 07, 2004 02:41 PM:

He IS on the bridge. Remember, Riker's in the captain's chair, and the angle is thus that the main stand of the tactical station is right behind him. To the right, you'll notice you can see the cushioned lower wall of those rear stations. [Smile]

oh man... I just recorded over it last night. Darn my failed memory of watching FamilyGuy episodes. --- It didn't look like the bridge for a couple reasons:

1) it was a solid wall
2) I thought I saw a monitor behind him
3) and the chair didn't look right to me

Oh well, it could be the fact that it was an early season episode, I've been thrown for years on how different the bridge was back then.

Crazy first season bridge

Posted by AndrewR (Member # 44) on June 08, 2004 02:33 AM:

The 1st season bridge was pretty much the same though??

Conn and Ops seats were raised a little, Captain's Chair was changed and they added those two extra side seats. Oh and I think they layed new carpet.

The Boxy things at the sides are different and I think it lacked some detail on the front of the Tactical station

I think the set was darker, too wasn't it?

That was the lighting, rather than any paint job, I think.

They did every season. And they also had some trouble covering the sain behind Worf's station where the Targ had a piss while shooting that Q-episode (according to the Companion).

Did they put new colored carpet down every season? I don't remember thinking, at the start of "BoBWII", "Oh, look, they changed the carpet in two seconds. Cute."

Posted by PsyLiam (Member # 73) on June 08, 2004 06:11 AM:

They might not have done it at the start of every season. They could have done the season 4 one while they were shooting family, or over Christmas. They did change it fairly regularly.

And they managed to build a new Big Ship Status Monitor Thingie in Engineering between BOBW I and II, so obviously someone on the ship had some spare time.

And is it just me or were the panels in the corridors in the first season a lot shinier?

Cappin workhorse is what I am....or Capwhore...eitherway, hes on the bridge in the keptins chair.

lil Billy Ryker!

Ok... I know it's gonna sound odd... but I still don't believe that's the bridge... maybe show a shot of when Riker and Troi are talking about what a Code 47 is.

Those squares over his shoulder just don't seem to fit.

Posted by Dat (Member # 302) on June 08, 2004 02:29 PM:

Those squares is the chair for what looks like the Environmental station (or what would later become it).

Posted by Futurama Guy (Member # 968) on June 08, 2004 08:53 PM:

It is...you can see the ramp over his shoulder..the squares are all over the bridge, between the turbolift and the rear science stations...don't make me make a cap of the bridge to prove otherwise.

Posted by AndrewR (Member # 44) on June 08, 2004 08:58 PM:

Yeah that's def the bridge - with the 'centre pillar' of the horseshoe and the wood of the horshshoe visible.

What is that viewscreen from though?

Yeah, that's what I meant - but who knows - thinking about it now - i'm sure during SOME seasons they gave the place a fresh coat of paint.

Oh and of course there was the new designations for each of the back row stations.

Anyone know what each was and what they turned into?

I know far left eventually became Science I and Far Right became Engineering I.

heh...I just love this exchange in the initial bridge scene:

Enterprise already viewed flying at warp
Riker: "Increase to Warp 6."
LaForge: "Aye sir, full impulse."

The aft stations from starboard to port (or left to right from the viewer's perpective) are Science I, Science II, Mission Ops, Environment, and finally Engineering. The port and starboard stations from Generations were Engineering II, Science III and Communications I and II, IIRC.

Posted by Captain Boh (Member # 1282) on June 09, 2004 10:12 AM:

even though there are at least two people already who can handle communications...?

Posted by Topher (Member # 71) on June 09, 2004 10:19 AM:

Maybe Data and Worf bitched about always having to do comms all the time so they put the Communications stations in.

I believe that they were redundant stations. This was expounded upon later in the E-E, which also had multiple stations where the GCS had only one. Also, I think they were redundant.

That is *so* the bridge in that picture. The first season had far less detail than later on. The horseshoe support thing had no details on it, and the lighting was pretty crappy.

Thanks, Dat - but what were the Stations in Season 1... they were different to the rest of the series.

Posted by Dat (Member # 302) on June 10, 2004 09:31 AM:

I think the majority were labeled as science stations. We'd probably have to ask Okuda, but there's a good chance he would not remember because it was so long ago.

It's in the TNG Companion. Unfortunatley, mine's still packed up...

Ah, here we go:

Season 1: Science I, Science II, Propulsion Systems, Emergency Manual Override, Environmtent

Season 2: Science I, Science II, Mission Ops, Environment, Engineering

Under Jellico: Damage Control, Weapons Status, Mission Ops, Environment, Engineering

So in season 1 Worf manned propulsion systems?

Posted by Aban Rune (Member # 226) on June 11, 2004 04:04 AM:

He probably served the function of a Mission Ops officer, monitoring Science 2 and Propulsion Systems. In fact, he may have monitored several of those stations. Environment seems like something someone would keep periodic tabs on.

By later seasons, though, Mission Ops got its own bridge station.

Worf and Geordi were the most about on the bridge in the first season. There was even something a scene once where they were in the sensor maintenance room or something. As at that time they were the young guys, we could explain it as them spending time in various departments while on the command track, which as we've discussed before would be a useful thing to do while a junior officer. By the second season, both had switched to their final departments.

Except they never actually changed the displays, did they? Probably because it would involve pulling the plexiglass (or whatever it was) off.

Posted by Aban Rune (Member # 226) on June 11, 2004 05:18 AM:

No, the set never changed. Jellico just told Data he wanted the two stations devoted to weapons and damage control and manned at all times.

Correction on something I said earlier. The port stations from Generations are all labeled as Communications. I would only guess it would be the same for the starboard stations.

Posted by Aban Rune (Member # 226) on June 12, 2004 04:45 AM:

4 stations dedicated to Com, huh? Doesn't seem right.

Posted by Topher (Member # 71) on June 12, 2004 06:11 AM:

Well, what would be logical fuctions for those extra stations to perform? A dedicated communications station might not be too bad to have, especially during big fleet exercises like in the Dominion War. And in peacetime, an extra science station or two wouldn't hurt. But in wartime those extra stations could be damage control, weapons status, mission ops, etc.

We forgot the 'waste extraction' at the back left of the bridge [Wink]

Changing the displays just means shoving new Okudagrams behind the glass. When I visited the TMP ARt Dept. in 1989 Rick Sternback was detailing new Battle Bridge console transparencies.

As to the stations, since the idea was that any companel could serve as any other, one could rationalize that people at those rear stations weren't necessarily using them for their default job.
