Just 'cause I'm weird, I'm working on getting as much about Star Trek San Francisco (and other cities too, really) from 1945 until the end of the TNG era.

I have all the historical and modern pics I need. What I need now are Trek images. I have stuff from the TMP:SE, ST6, "Homefront"[DS9], "The Changing Face of Evil"[DS9].

What I'm mainly looking for are high-res shots out of Admiral Forrest's window. I am almost certain we got a helluva-good view out of those little round windows once, but I can't remember when to save my life, and most of my vidcaps from the series (save for season three, which naturally contains squat) are on the crappy side.

Also, if you happen to recall any other SanFran scenes, or scenes of other Earth cities, lemme know. I know we've got Mojave from "The Cage", and I know where to find various Paris shots.

Thanks in advance!

What about ST4?

-Cambridge is seen in All Good Things,
-Far Beyond the Stars shows Manhatten in the 1950s.
-San Francisco is seen in the 2020s in Past Tense

Thats all I can think of

I have an image of Starfleet HQ from Star Trek IV if you want it.

Can't speak to accuracy, but the Special Edition Trek IV DVD has a CGI fly-in to Starfleet HQ along the bridge. Neat shots and may help to align the buildings there.

Yo Stephen!
THe USS Loftus is now centrally displayed on the bookacse fleet o' fame!

You know, you're now a year late in completing a Elkins?

It's Marian's favorite ship, after all.

(I now return you to your scheduled debate on the fictionalized future of San Fransisco)

Here is San Francisco in TMP:Director's Ed.

Oh and I didn't cap it - I got it from a website somewhere.

Movies.trekpulse.com I think it was.

That was probably a dig of some kind, but I didn't get it, because I don't know what an Elkins is. [Smile]

Trouble is, whoever made that CGI sequence failed to note that Starfleet Command and the Federation Council Chambers are apparently at two different locations, the latter being farther west of the bridge than the former. They tried to combine them into one complex where SFC should be.

Sorry, can't provide caps at the moment, but may be able to at some point.

This is the Elkins. (Side view) Not sure what sort of joke he was trying to make... [Confused]

1. Thanks for the links, Reverend. Given the tone of the recent discussion of San Fran in another thread, I didn't get the impression it had been discussed before. Sweet.

2. New CGI in ST4? Where have I been?

And thanks to all.

It's just for the DVD menu. Not in the actual film itself.

My theory is the USS Klkins is named after Elkins,West Virginia

Posted by The Mighty Monkey of Mim (Member # 646) on :

Actually, it was named for Judy Elkins, a member of the VFX staff on DS9.

Not a dig:
Actually, the Elkins might be more accurate.
I actually love the Elkins: I think she's a better looking ship than the Intrepid.
You will as well.....

The first photo.
Two main deflectors would make Geordi's "borg buster" weapon feasable (and they had to have broken the Borg's subspace field somehow! before Enterprise E arrived in FC!)

While Stephen is far far behind the kitbash curve, his model will be in a larger scale than my own, so i forgive him his procrastination.
Plus, few people can make a nice looking model from a Intrepid, a Runabout and an F-14 Tomcat. [Big Grin]

Your theory is very wrong. [Wink]

The ship is named for Judy Elkins, VFX coordinator on DS9 and animator for TWOK.

No, because i didn't SEE Mr. Neutron's picture in this thread actually he hasn't even POSTED in this thread! Plus,it doesn't have all the sucky writing over it and it's a clearer cap.

THe Elkin's studio model is made from a Voyager kit, A Runabout and a pair of Connie Refit nacelles (though mine are modified Constalation nacelles) and a F-14 Tomcat hull turned backwards (using it's dual jet engines-with modifications and deflector emitters- as the secondary hulls.
The very rear of the cockpit is the sloped shuttlebay.

Here's the -fairly crappy- studio model.

It wasn't aware that labeling items for identification qualified the writing as "sucky".

I think it's GREAT That Sydney and Melbourne weren't directly mentioned as cities, but Brisbane was! WOO! [Smile] BUT! We've had the Starships - Sydney Class and the U.S.S. Melbourne.

I'm sure there was also an episode where they mentioned Perth. Or maybe that was Kill Bill Vol. 2? [Big Grin]

About your list, might be nice to separate it into the different shows. And what about ships named after places? The Sao Paulo's dedication plaque specifically says it's named for the people of Brazil. Of course that could mean there isn't a Sao Paulo anymore. . !

Posted by Fleet-Admiral Michael T. Colorge (Member # 144) on :

Well that would have been great if the Xindi weapon destroyed Sao Paulo along with parts of Florida.

Posted by Lee (Member # 393) on :

Perhaps it'll get destroyed in the Unnamed Prequel Movie.

Posted by AndrewR (Member # 44) on :

please let there not be an "Unnamed Prequal Movie" The whole Starfleet Academy idea sucks before it's even begun.

How could it do that? I already find it hard to believe that it could have reached Venezuela. As I've already pointed out in the past (not here, mind you), when we last saw the beam it was just leaving Cuba, and it was going in the direction of Colombia. And a mere instant later, the probe was destroyed. In order to reach Venezuela, the beam would have had to rapidly accelerate and change direction in those few instants between when we switch from the beam on the surface to the sphere in orbit and when the sphere is destroyed and the beam ceases.

Of course, there are other possible explanations: Cuba may have become a part of Venezuela by the 22nd Century, or Starfleet personnel are complete dumbasses when it comes to world geography...
