Just watched "Friday's Child" last night, and from what I could make out, the original "yellow-glowing blob" ship has now been replaced with a regular D-7.
The funny thing about this is that I could have sworn that the Klingon ship was originally referred to as a "scout ship" in dialogue, but Chekov clearly states that it is a Klingon "warship." Also, unless I just missed it, the reference to the U.S.S. Carolina was deleted. Did I just miss this when I went to the bathroom or something?

Probably syndication cuts are responsible for any missed dialogue. Wait for the DVDs.
Maybe it was a scout variant of the D-7.

Actually, now that I've read the responses on the trekmovie.com site, I see that it was Kras who said that he arrived there in a scoutship. So his statement could be taken in one of three ways:
1. He actually landed on the planet in a scoutship launched from the D-7,
2. He's using the term "scoutship" not as a class or type, but rather as the actual "mission" the D-7 was conducting, or
3. He was just flat-out lying, making Kirk think he only had a puny scoutship when in fact it was a D-7.

I've seen speculation that while at that distance it LOOKS like a D-7, it isn't. Giving the Klingon traditions of similar ship design and scaling, I think there is some room for interpretation.

Maybe he arrived some time eariler...months even and his scoutship is planetside, while the D-7 (whatever) was sent to intercept Enterprise.

The only Federation ship that got mentioned was the SS Dierdre. I was also pretty sure Scotty said "fool me once..." in the episode, but that seemed to be missing, too.

Dang, sounds like they deleted a couple of good lines. Well, the "fool me once" line was a good one. Delete the reference to the Carolina, and that line of Scotty's has to be cut or it makes no sense.

Note for those who are curious: I recently bought two episodes from iTunes... they're the remastered versions, and they're the full 50-minute original release. I'd originally been concerned that the producers were only making a 40-minute remastered version, but they're redoing the effects for the entire episodes. It's just the network that's cutting out chunks for commercials, same as before.

The iTunes season 1 Star Trek is a mix of original versions and remastered versions. I think I'll wait till all episodes are redone.
