Found this today:

Not much new here, but at least the models are shown up close. Of particular interest is the Xhosa, which I don't think we've seen up close before.

The Excelsior looks like shit.

So does the Constellation; it's being sodomized by a giant pole.

Are these the actual filming models?

Posted by Mars Needs Women (Member # 1505) on :

The Vorcha, Excelsior, and Constellation are filming models, but the TOS Enterprise is a replica.

Posted by Johnny (Member # 878) on :

These few models (as well as the Nebula class and a few more shuttles) seem to be the only ones they haven't sold off.

Great reference pics! Thanks!
Check out the extra two phasers on the Valkerie's dorsal side:

Wacky.

Great pics of the Constellation, I´m getting a little bored seeing only the standard models like the Vor'cha and the Galaxy.

I noticed in an obscure photo the model of the Jem Hadar battleship, how come there are no good pics of that model for instance? Or the Vidiian? What with the Christie's auction and all...

Whoa - I never noticed that before!

Actually, looking at this picture, it looks like there are *five* extra phaser nodes around the perimeter.

Looks like I'm heading down to San Diego this weekend...

Whoa, the Constellation's packing heat.

Posted by Reverend (Member # 335) on :

Those's are the same models and set pieces I saw at an exhibition in Bournemouth something like ten years ago. No wonder they're starting to fall apart, must have been around the world a dozen times by now.

No kidding- that ship would be a battleship in Kirk's era....probably a match for an Excelsior even.
Two impulse plants, four nacelles, bunch o' phasers and four torpedo tubes (if the model can be trusted).

Makes me wonder how many would be in service circa the Dominion War.

Looks like the new phasers are located at the saucer's single-person elevator airlocks.

Makes you wonder how Picard struggled against the then-unknown Ferengi ship.

Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :

I think they sucker-punched them during opening hails.
Possibly the Ferengi's alien (and previously unencountered) power systems did not register as a weapons buildup.
Or it was a TWOK moment where the Ferengi weapons powered up faster than the Stargazer's shields.

Posted by Reverend (Member # 335) on :

Didn't the Cardassians do the same thing to him? Jean-Luc is a trusting old soul...

As for the armaments; remember that even though the Stargazer had to be abandoned, it was still able to destroy the Ferengi ship in the time it took them to realise they were shooting at a sensor ghost, presumably with it's shields already up.

I'm still wondering why Picard would even have the crew abandon ship seeing as DaiMon Bok was able to fix her up easily and give her back to Picard. I think at the court martial, they should have punished Picard for doing that. Maybe they did by giving him a desk job for nearly a decade before giving him the Enterprise.

Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :

We dont know the condition Bok found it in- it may have been flooded wih radiation, lost life support or maybe some combonation of things that made Picard assume the ship was lost (warpcore breach countdown for example).

Or maybe he just really wanted a better ship.

Now I can save time doing other things.

Going to the closed Celine Dion show and crying openly?

Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :

Crying because you have no clear shot with your rifle?
Crying because she loves you and only you- she just doesn't know it yet. You will show her- show her real good.
Crying because you just admitted to liking her music and the eternal jibes you'll recieve now?

Posted by Starship Freak (Member # 293) on :

Crying because her evil manager has stopped your letters but you know she still knows about them somehow?
Crying because you two communicate telepathically and she wanted you to come but you misunderstood and went to Vegas instead of her home?

I've also found some pics of the U.S.S. Titan model that was used at the Experience. It's not a bad design, but it would have been better used as a background ship like the Norway & Steamrunner, rather than as Riker's new command.

Jesus I hate that fucking design. Every time Sean Tourangeau posts at SCN, I want to track him down & fucking throttle him. He has so much talent, yet his work is such SHIT.

The removal of that pod would improve the design so much.

Posted by Ahkileez (Member # 734) on :

Thank God. I thought I was the only one who didn't like it.

Posted by Pensive's Wetness (Member # 1203) on :

Is that pod weapons or sensors? or both?

remove the pod and all the Titan will be is a advanced version of the Norway...

...wait a minute... it's been a couple years since i read the 1st book (never got into the next 2, disinterest) but how big is the Titan compared to other ships? (Forget the stats they had in the book)

...ok, i just looked on Bernd's and DITL. both sites don't offer any info on the Luna class (since it's a book, thus not quite Cannon, yet). Is that intential or any interest in that regard? I'm not really sure where to go with this idea ATM...

I think it had a crew of around 450, and something like 15-20 decks, if that helps. I'd guess it is 1 1/2 x the size of Voyager.

Posted by Mars Needs Women (Member # 1505) on :

It would make a nice background ship, but it's definitely not hero material.

Posted by Sean (Member # 2010) on :

I agree. The model itself doesn't look too detailed though. I'm guessing that this design is supposed to be the Miranda to the Soverign's Constitution. I wonder what other Sovie contemporaries would look like. Is the Intrepid class condsidered to be in the same design family?

Uh... Am I the only one who thinks that's essentially an Akira with some of the bits pushed around and the "Sovereign" theme turned on?

Heresy!

Don't sully my beloved Akira by comparing it to the Luna [Razz]

The problem is, when Nemesis came out, I got the distinct impression that the Titan was supposed to be this massive ship, even bigger than the Enterprise-E (hence the name Titan). I couldn't see Riker accepting the command of a ship that was less powerful or smaller than the Enterprise, even if it was of a new class. Plus, its very first mission was to negotiate a peace treaty with the Romulan Empire. A mission of that magnitude would require the services of a ship like the Galaxy class, wouldn't you think, even if it were just as a show of strength? However, Pocket books decided to take a different approach.

At least the ship is non-canon. If Berman and Braga had had an ounce of sense in their heads, they would have brought back Riker and Troi post-Nemesis instead of during "The Pegasus" for that shitty series finale of ENT. And if that had been the case, I guarantee they would not have used Sean Toranganeau's design, if only to avoid copyright issues.

I seem to remember the contest requirements having it around 400-450m long.

Ah, here we go!
quote:
Here are the main parts of the concept notes from the back of the titan novel...(not exactly word for word)

Titan Concept notes

USS Titan, NCC 80102, Luna-Class

The Titan is a mid-size starfleet vessel, approx. 450m in length, with a crew complement of 350, Titans hull configuration is comparable to other SF vessels.

Luna class is SF newest-gen long-range explorer, a starship but not built specifically for combat, but like the connie, a vessel designed for a long term multipurpose mission into uncharted space. Equipped with conventional Tactical systems (deflector shields, phasers, quantum torps) Titan also boasts state-of-the-art propulsion and cutting-edge scientific equipment as well as being a testbed for experimental scienc tech not yet available on other classes.

The Titan is manned by the most varied multispecies crew in SF history, with humans comprising less than 15% of the 350 member crewthe diversity of the crew is intended to facilitate stories that will explore the ways that beings of different cultures, biologies, psychologies and physical appearances learn how to work together, or fail to, depending on the circumstances they encounter.

The Luna-class development project was initiated in 2369 in response to the discovery of the Bajoran wormhole.
Field testing of the USS Luna began in 2372, but the projected was shelved due to the dominion war, then resumed in 2375.

LUNA-Class Fleet:

all ships named for moons in the Sol System (Terran Solar System)

Amalthea
Callisto
Charon
Europa
Galatea
Ganymede
Io
Luna
Oberon
Rhea
Titan
Triton

Truthfully, it's not a bad overall design, if a bit fanboyish with all the obvious Akira elements.
Seriously, this looks much more like an Akira than the NX-01 ever did.
The book's writing was lackluster and, like most of us, I never felt compelled to buy the second novel despite the cliffhanger Voyager gag of the ship being thrown too far from home to ever return (and with Tuvok on board no less!).

As to the ship, lose the pod, shorten that silly-ass landing strip (useless in space anyway!) at the rear and de-Akira those bloated nacelles a bit and it'd be just fine.
If the torpedo thingie pod is retained, I'd blen the support pylons into the akira-esque catamaran bumps on the saucer- thicken them a bit so a turbolift could easilt get up there too.
Also, it seems a bit shy on phaser coverage- maybe add a pair to those incredibly wasteful giant nacelle pylons- that's probably 100 tonnes of mass that's not needed- just to give it that "bat" look, so why not add phasers there?

Do junior officers get stuck with quarters under the pod with a window looking on nothing?

Why can't they come up with more ships like the Sovereign-class? That thing is just pure art and made ST:FC 10x better for an already great movie.

Posted by Fabrux (Member # 71) on :

The Sovereign looks unfinished.

The pointy nacelle ends look silly if you're not looking at the ship from the foreward flyby- it's made to look "fast" as it pans past the camera's eye but the ship looks silly from behind or from the sides.

The only worse is the 3d model of it that some peanut is making...

1.6 million polys, 100 mb of textures and it's well,
rubbish.

I just noticed looking at the model shots on the last page, the Titan looks like someone stepped on an Akira and stuck a pod on top. The nacelles look exactly the same. The bridge and surrounding structures are the same... just squished.

But yay for him... he got a big model made of his ship.

Bah! I allready did that for your USS Weber and that got made into a kit no less!

Still, it's every fanboy's dream to have his/her design officially aknowledeged and I tip my hat for that.
