Hi there,
yesterday I had the opportunity to watch the new film and I like to share my observations regarding ships & registries with you (mayor spoilers ahead):
1. Of course we see the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) in this movie - but only for a short while. Its no secret that that ship will be destroyed in the beginning of the movie. 2. While on Starbase Yorktown, we hear an announcement for another starship crew - the NCC-21xx (can't recall the exact number). A name is not given, nor is the ship being shown. 3. Then we have the USS Franklin, NX-368 (not sure about the last two digists), but the registry was visible on the hull of the ship. The name of the captain was given as well (Captain Edison). It was said that this was the first Warp 4 starship - wouldn't that mean this ship predates the Enterprise (NX-01)? In this case I wonder why the registry is higher (and not something like NV-368 instead). 4. We see a schematic of one of the ships Captain Edison served on - not sure if this was the USS Franklin. The registry, however was given as NCC-7xxx (again, not sure about the last few digits). 5. I have not spotted any other federation starship this time! As far as I know there was no Newton-class ship (or any other class) at the Starbase Yorktown or at any other location. 6. At the end we see another USS Enterprise, this time with the registry NCC-1701-A!

2.) NCC-2893. That would be the Stargazer in the Prime Universe. 3.) The higher number could be explained by a renumbering when Earth's Starfleet became the Federation's Starfleet. The NX-prefix doesn't make much sense in that context, though.

Thanks for the update, Spike!
Why should Starfleet (UFP) keep the old USS Franklin (a warp 4 ship) and put the NX-Enterprise (a more advanced ship) into mothballs? But the registry scheme in nuTrek was always a little bit weird - what a minute - this ship must be from the Prime timeline!
Bwt, the registry of the Franklin was given with NCC-326 somewhere in the internet.

Like I said in the other topic it works better if the Franklin was actually a Warp 6 or Warp 7 ship.
I think it was NX-326.

Yes, its NX and not NCC.
Your argument regarding Warp 6 is sound, but I can't believe that the producers did such a silly error - well, I guess I have to watch again, just to be sure that I have not missed something...

It's possible the warp scale was recalibrated after ENT, with the new "Warp 4" being faster than the former Warp 5. We already know that happened at least once between TOS and TNG.

The Warp 4 line bothered me, especially as Captain Eddison made mention of being a MACO who fought the Xindi & Romulans (which, interestingly, presumably suggests he was also aboard NX-01 during Season 3 of ENT). I guess the ship could be an old Earth Starfleet ship that Eddison was given command of after 2161, but as others have said why the NX registry and why keep an older design in service & mothball the NX-Class? Makes much more sense to me at least if it's a new build for the fledgling UFP, and that they've redefined the Warp Scale - perhaps this is related to the whole 'breaking the time barrier' thing from way back in "The Cage".

Prime-universe Scotty made a similar mistake in the Animated Series. He claimed the USS Bonaventure was the first ship equipped with Warp Drive, a dubious claim even in the early days of Star Trek canon. He should really stop identifying ships.
So the Nu-A has the name and registry on the dorsal and ventral sides of the saucer. The sensor dome looks more complex, like on an Excelsior class, probably a reference to that Admiral(?)lady's comments about the new ship having better sensors. The deflector dish was different, it is a darker shade of blue. It has a black pattern (or gaps) radiating from the center. The nacelle seem smaller and thinner than on the old ship, but the pylons seem the same, giving the ship odd proportions. Also I think they moved the neck closer to the deflector, shrinking the "beer belly" in the secondary hull.

So wait, they didn't fix the silly look at all, but just made it different-silly?

The nacelles look farther back on the pylon than the old JJ-prise, looks very unbalanced. Not impressed.

The Franklin perhaps uses NX because being the first Warp 4 ship it's the prototype for the (Franklin?) class. It must have been re-registered when absorbed into Starfleet. Its initial Earth registry might have been something more akin to NV-01 or such. The Franklin dedication plaque does specify "Starfleet Registry NX-326" and "United Federation of Planets". The plaque is therefore not Franklin's original Earth Starfleet plaque with a presumably different registry number.
The "Starship Class" bit is a nice touch and confirms that Starship is a general category that fits most of Starfleet's early fleet. Unfortunately however we don't know for sure whether the ship ever spawned a Franklin class, or whether it had a different (alphanumerical) class denomination when launched pre-2161.

Hi there,
I found some more starship references in Star Trek Beyond, which I like to share:
When the Enterprise is docking at Starbase Yorktown you can see an Armstrong-type starship in the background. So far no news. But right next to it you can see another pair of blue bussard collectors - it seems to me that this is a Mayflower-type starship - at least it fits the profile unless it is something new.
And I think I found another Armstrong-type starship in the scene at the end of the movie when the new Enterprise is beeing build. You can see an Armstrong-type starship leave the spacedock - but only the rim of the saucer section and parts of the pylon. Most of the ship is covered by the sceleton of the Enterprise. Or it could be a Mayflower-tpye starhips since the profie is very similar.
By the way, in the same scene you can see a shuttle with a registry under its nose, looks a little bit like NCC-1701, but I'm not sure. Maybe someone with the 4k version of the movie could help out?

When I first saw the movie in the cinema a few month ago, I thought I saw a schematic of the USS Franklin with the (wrong) registry NCC-71xx in one of the scenes.
Last night I re-watched the movie at home and I was surprised to learn that the registry in that particular scene was changed to NX-326! It looks like the previous mistake was corrected for the home video release!

Given the comparative lack of attention to detail in the JJ/Black Hole/Kelvin films, I think it safe to say that no money or time was spent adjusting a registry for the video release.
Edit: Nope, I'm wrong. Found someone else saying something similar about the registry in the theater: https://www.reddit.com/r/startrek/comments/4vak25/potentially_more_franklin_registry_problems/

Well, I believe they spend the money this time (and we all know the occasions when they did not), because the registry was dedicated to the memory of Leonard Nimoy.
By the way, didn't they start filming on Star Trek Discovery last week? Did anyone heard something about it? When do we get the first picture?
