You should do something with the Starfleet insignia. It looks too simple compared to the rest of the patch.

If you could get a good shot of that polychromatic Doc Edgerton-esque "drop hitting the water" crown that "showed the Akira energy pattern & used that in place of the ship design....? WOW.
It's always UP or SFY, isn't it? Bleh.

Shouldnt the Starfleet symbol be the Voyager-era one? Or are you assuming the Akira-Class had a great deal of development behind it?

I'd prefer to keep the style of logo consistent between my class patches.

That would be very difficult, especially with that funky rainbow effect. However I'll give it a go when I come to do the U.S.S. Akira logo...although I did have my heart set on using that red motorbike.

Oh contraire, mot of the class patches that I've done lately have been either the Cochrane Yards at Alpha Centauri or the Copernicus Yards on Luna. In fact I don't think I've ever done a class patch with Utopia Planitia on it before.

Yes, I subscribe to the Starship Spotter version of events. That the Akira was originally just a side project, an exercise in weapons engineering with just a handful of pathfinder vessels that were never meant to go into full production. Which of course they did, largely because of Wolf 359.

Reverend, your patch reminds me of the Enterprise patch. Was that intentional? If it was that is totally cool and good tie in.

Considering the two known Akiras are USS Thunderchild NCC-63549 and USS Spector NCC-65549 I don't really see why...

Yeah - I'd say the arrowhead with the circle.
You could have a picture of Akira from the Simpsons? or Akira Kurusawa SP? or the Movie "Akira"!

Very much so.

That too.

Oval. Circle would be circa 2370's - 2400's.

I have never seen an Akira in the Simpsons. I don't think it is named after that excellent filmmaker and if it was it'd be a Kurosawa-Class starship. Akira is (from what I gather) a fairly common first name, it'd be like having a "U.S.S. George", which could be any number of things. And there already is something from the Movie in it, that writing is taken from the poster.

Akira from the Simpsons is the japanese sushi prepared that almost killed Homer with bad blowfish.

Ah, gotcha. That Akira.
Which just proves my point about how common the name is...although it's possible that one of the writers was a Manga fan.

Wasn't the sushi chef also voiced by George Takei?
I think USS Akira was most likely named for the manga/anime. There's no other reason to give it a first name.

I saw that Akira movies once. It was pretty good, but it didn't leave me very hungry afterwards...
Akira is my favorite design, don't ask why, it just looks cool

For whatever it's worth I did some research a while back to try and determine when we first saw the oval Starfleet emblem in use. I first thought it was on the USS Pegasus, but it turns out a few years earlier the first instance of the oval symbol comes from the Galaxy Class Development Logo from 2343.

Rev, are you planning on orienting the Akira starship top view the same as the Enterprise patch? I was curious how that would look. It would make even a great tie in to Enterprise. What do you think?

The style of the drawing is already a nod to "Enterprise", anything else would be redundant.
However I'm not 100% pleased with the layout so I've come up with two possible alternatives.
I'm not sure which of the three I perfer, myself.

The third one looks but I'd move the Japanese chararcter over the ship instead.

Reverend, I would set the Akira Top View off center from the Japanese Font, so you can see the ship in full. On the third I would have "Akira" tne the Japanese font, but one on top of the other. These are my suggestions. What do you think?
