I'd like your opinion on a new model I've completed- a Guardian class ship named U.S.S. Spartan. I did not design this one- it's a kit from Ravenstar Studios. Here's the stock version.
Here's my take on it.
I added the torpedo pod (from another model). While I'm not normally fond of "uber" ships, this really grew on me as I built it up. I could see this serving in limited numbers during the Cardassian War as starfleet's big stick...
Your opinions? Do you like the design? Anything you might do diffrently?
I plan on buying a second of these and replacing the phasers with a more standard confifuration of three, and mabye painting it in grey tones instead of the ambassador-esque blues this one recieved.

I like it! I think your'e right about reducing the number a phaser arrays on the top though - it looks kinda fanboyish. The pod, however looks pretty good, and can't realy decide if i like the smooth top or the pod better.
So, is the new one going to be a toned down refit version? What sort of era are you gonna put it in?

"Tis sweet. Yours is thrice as nice as the stock one. I like the Amassador-era placement. The only thing that bugs me about the design is the very obvious reuse of the Excelsior hull on the underside. Other than that, I likey.

I like it.
But I'm not sure it really classifies as an 'uber' ship, in the bad sense. It's rather small, and it looks like a relatively short range vessel. Definitly not something for the frontier lines, but rather a system (or sector) defence type of role.

It looks very much like a merging of designs... Particularly Oberth class and Ambassador. I like it. And yes, the phasers are a bit much. But overall its a cool design. It could almost be the grandaddy of the Sabre class...

I do think the next one I built will have just the normal three phaser arrays.
It's not too Uber....by TNG standards anyhow- it's only about as long as the Ambassador's saucer.
I place all my ships in the DS9 era and this design works in that role -as much as an Ambassador anyway, and I have two of those up now.
I'm building up a "Call to Arms" fleet with Romulans and Klingons included this time.
I agree thst the Excelsior secondary hull could have been more original, but there are several big alterations to that part- only the general shape remains the same.
Intresting sabre comparison: I had not looked at it that way before. I was thinking of kind of a Cardassain War-era Defiant. Something with limited uses and small production numbers.

The Sabre popped right into my head. Dont know why. The phaser thing could work, if the stips were a lower spec... then the warp core could probably power them all.... Just a thought. I like the pod though. Would that be offensive in nature, or modular?

It's a big torpedo pod from the Abbe class. Four tubes forward and four aft firing.
...though it's definitely modular- that dark grey "spine" visible when the ship's pod is removed is the connecting hardpoint.
I cant think of any other pods except mabye a circular sensor pod- I always thought the triangular Nebula pod was a bit useless (or at least we never saw any benifit come from it).
I figure the phasers can all be powered up but their strength is less than later classes of starships and at cost to other systems.

Right. The only use the Nebula triangle seemed to have was to launch an occasional torp... The only drawback I can see for the Spartan is the potential power drain from so much weaponry. Otherwise, its an awesome-looking ship!

Great paint job! A lot better than on the stock model.

Thanks- though to be fair, the stock version is just to showcase the model itself.
A few others are building the same design: I'll see if I can post pics of theirs as they are completed.
A friend is going to add a Miranda-esque rollbar and torpedo launcher where my pod is located.
Should be a nice variant.

Again Jason you put the perfect touch to one of my models . it really stands out, very cool. As for the the ship being small , it is 325 m long and was designed for long range patrol and battle. jason please send pics for our Gallery thanks chris
