I think It's a highly interesting concept.

However, they usually need at LEAST a top, front, and side view before attempting 3D.

I would like to see a side view (if the shown one is the top view). I assume the outer ring is rather flat, and the core is raised, but very angular, maybe some kind of pentagon pyramid (too lazy to look up the exact mathematical description of such a body).

You don't always need three views to draw it in 3D. You sometimes need only two. Want examples?
