A long, long time ago back when all this was under the Behaviour Group, a very talented 3d modeler posted his version of a TOS era Miranda class starship. About that time the site got hacked and things started moving around, and I lost track of y'all! Anyway, if anyone remembers the design/designer I'm referring to, I would like to ask that person to kindly re-post his final design. As I recall, it had yet to have the texturing done when I last saw it...

Thanks, and it's good to be back!

Well, I'm afraid I don't recall who drew the ship. The model, however, was made by Tachy (then (I think) of the 3D Warriors, formerly of Team001, and now of Scifi-Art). Unfortunately, they don't seem to have any pictures of it up at SFA. I found this one

on the page of downloadable meshes. Go over to Scifi-Art and ask at their forums. I'm sure somebody will hook you up w/ some pix.

Chris Weyer designed it.

The pic looks way cool although I personally believe that the Miranda was one of the first ships to be designed with the new Yoyodine nacelles see on the Ent refit and therefore never existed in this form. Just my opinion, of course.

I also believe the Miranda always had the new nacelle type. Maybe the ships were first built a few years before the Enterprise was refitted. Other nacelle designs might have been possible as well. However, the engineers were reliant that the constitution with Miranda nacelles was a worth-while enterprise.

Actually, from what I hear (read, actually) the first ship with the new nacelles seen on the E-nul in TMP was the Decatur prototype, which later became the Belknap class (my fav ship )

Fabrux: You have a reason why the Belknap is your favorite? I must say that I don't like its appearance.

Fabrux: You've piqued my interest. Does anyone have a screen cap of the starship Belknap?

Well, Baloo, I hate to burst your bubble, but the Belknap isn't a canon ship. Here is the image that I have on my page.

Bernd: I just really like it. It looks really cool, and, other than the Akyazi, it's the most extensively covered non-canon ship.

See, the Akyazi I like. It is different enough from other ships that it has some creativity to it. It is also similar enough to era ships that it fits. As for ships like the Belknap (which I think is a really cool name by the way), it's just a constitution with the nacelles and struts moved down. There is no logical reason for Starfleet to make such a design change. They are essentially building a Constitution but adding the variables of different construction and assembly techniques. No way.

Well, Abe, there is no logical reason in taking the excelsior's "head" and putting it between it's "legs" either. But SOMEHOW the Shelley/Curry Class was born!

Regarding the Shelley Class, I completely agree. The only difference is, we've seen that one on screen. And by the way guys, if I knew how to put those little smiley faces in here, you'd be seeing them all over the place. I completely agree with Fabrux, to each their own!!

The only justification I can come up with for the Shelley rearranging is that they moved the saucer back to open up that long upper deck to use for shuttle landing and the lower decks for shuttle and cargo storage. Maybe there are now big doors on the top deck of the engineering section. It is supposed to be a shuttle carrier I believe. Although, seeing as most ships carry at least 20 shuttles, I don't see why Star Fleet would dedicate an entire class of ship to this purpose.

Seriosly, I agree. First they put all their stock in smooth design and eyecandy, then it's retro-gray square designs. Like the engineers is following some sorta interstellar fashion.
