Yep, that was the Horizon that left the book on Iotia. It also was destroyed shortly after leaving Iotia. Come to think of it, most of the Daedalus class ships we know of met bad fates. We know what happened to the Essex from TNG's "Power Play", and we know what happened to the Archon from TOS's "Return of the Archons". Maybe the show should be Star Trek: Daedalus.
5.) Uh...you are aware that historical dramas are expensive, yes? And that is essentially what we're talking about here. A conscious effort to make things look retro without looking like crap. That isn't cheap or easy.

O.k. let me just say that I like the idea of doing a dawn of the Federation series. I think it could be great and that time period is ripe with possibilities.
Now let me tell you why I think it will never happen:
1. The creators will never go back to the "cheesy' cardboard look of the original series after all the new fangled stuff in TNG. Not that it couldn't be done to look great, it just won't happen.
2. There's no connection with the current series and non fans would never tune in. Again, not a bad thing, it just won't happen.
3. While the Daedalus Class is a cool design for the era, they'll never put it on screen everyweek when they could have Defiant's doing fly by's with pulse phasers blasting.
Again, I think this would make a great series. I think it's already being done in the comics though. Maybe we should lobby for a canon comic series of this era.

I agree with Aban Rune. Now that everything looks cool and sleek, there is no way back to TOS or even Pre-TOS. Not that I wouldn't like it, but there are just too many restrictions to props, ships and overall style. Actually, continuity would be even more important, since nothing revolutionary is supposed to happen during that time. Just think of the frequent discoveries of "entirely new" energy, silicon or whatever exotic species or new weapons or ships. There can be nothing like that in a Pre-TOS series, the only revolutionary things to be developed we already know: phasers, pho-torps, transporters and subspace radio. Interesting for most of us, but not that exciting for the many wannabe-fans out there and thus not an option for Paramount.

Sounds good and would watch it, but I don't think it will happen. As everyone else has said it just doesn't have the ability for the flare of tech like the other series and that is what is likely to drawn new viewers.

It's an excellent idea , full of scope! It gets true fans like us widen our eyes and wonder at what wonders it could contain.
In other words, it's a series that Paramount would never make.
