I just had one of the most saddening and frustrating experiences. This christmas I bought a CD-R for myself as a present of sorts for being good, but as I installed the little bugger everthing on my computer ceased to function correctly. I found myself at first recieving error messages, than the computer locks up, and to top it all of the dang thing wouldn't load. I don't know which is worse, the fact that I lost two years of work, or the fact that I did it to myself What I should have done is backed up all my drawings, but we were talking about 200 megs worth, so that would have been one hell of a backup. I don't suppose smashing my computer to pieces would solve much , but that fact doesn't seem to bother me at the moment. The worst part is I am kind of out of my drawing phase, so just starting over won't work. Oh well, I guess shit happens and than you die, but don't take that the wrong way.

What type of CD-R is it?? SCSI or IDE. And what brand (Sony, Plextor, etc.)??

Are you saying that the data on your hard drives is totally corrupted and can't be read even on another computer?

The drive is an Iomega ZipCD, and seemed to work for a while, but computer started showing error messages periodically with it everntually locking up entirely. I then turned the computer off expecting it to scan the disk so I could restart in safe mode to figure out what went wrong, but I didn't get that far because mid defragmenting the computer kicked itself out of the program,so after that there was no hope left. The computer seaced to function at all.

My graphics might have not been all that good, but after all they were mine, and a lot of time and effort went into producing them. I just wanted to say goodbye to the forum for a little while because this kind of reminds me of all the work I lost. I am not saying I wouldn't be in occassionally, but I definately will be doing alot more lurking and alot less posting.

Well what I'm saying is that you should take out the hard drive with your work, take it to a friend's house and see if they can recover it for you.

Unless you had a HD crash or the defragmenter destroyed parts of your work, you should still be able to get most of your work back.

They also have commercial services that can recover data from even damaged HDs.
