Ladies and gentlemen, some of you may recall a little project Fabio had going about 3 months ago... She was known as the Frontier, and she was my creation. It took us awhile to find someone capable of coverting her to MAX, but we did find someone, and now she has arrived... Well, almost. =]

Fabio and myself are proud to present... USS Frontier, NX-80426, Frontier Class Tactical Crusier.

Oooh...pretty. Nice CGI work, right down to the clouds in the bussard collectors.

What's the difference between the Frontier and Galaxy though? New nacelles, shorter neck...

Also, the pylons are backward, and the saucer is narrower (I belive he took two GCS saucer front halves, put them back to back, and turned that sideways).

The stardrive itself is different, too. If you can tell, the top lip of the deflector area goes out farther than on the Galaxy - either the stardrive is longer of the deflector is more recessed.

The Frontier is what I like to refer to as an "advanced kitbash", along the lines of the Nebula and Miranda... Not only cut and paste, but also innovation and reworking of various areas to create a much more unique ship.

A list of differences between the Frontier and Galaxy:
- Elongated saucer
- No saucer sep.
- Modified impulse engines
- Shorter, more copact neck
- Elongated nacelles with exposed coils
- Sovereign-esque bussards
- 2 new torpedo launchers in pylongs below nacelles
- 4 new phaser arrays
- Elongated secondary hull
- Nebula-esque deflector
- Modified deflector area, including different neckline and RCS shoulders on rim.
- 870m long Frontier vs. a 643m long Galaxy.

And an assortment of internal changes featuring post-Dominion War technology... As the backstory of this class will state, the Frontier was the 3rd (or 4th/5th... If you count New Orleans, Cheyenne, etc) branch in the Nebula-Galaxy family tree. Development began in the early 2360's, shortly after SF R&D began recieving feedback on the new Galaxy Class's performance and shortcommings. However, a couple years later, the Sovereign Class came along featuring most of the improvements in the Frontier wrapped up in 1/3rd the packaging, so the Frontier Class was set aside. During the Dominion War, with multi-hundred ship battles occurring, SF needed a dedicated commandship/heavy tactical crusier to lead these fleets. The Frontier Class, being to combat what the Galaxy Class was to exploration, was resurrected and the half-completed USS Frontier spaceframe ordered to be completed ASAP. However, the Dominion War ended shortly before the Frontier was completed. SF decided to complete work on the Frontier, and she performed extremely well in shakedown. The decision was made to construct a small number of these giant ships, should future hostilities require their services.

Good/bad?

Great work!

The description sounds reasonable.

I've turned the galaxy-saucer 90 degrees many times on my own pictures, this is great!!!

Hot damn, what a sweet ship! Not only is it a perfect visualization of the design IMHO (ie. it looks exactly like I imagined it ) but it's very high quality.

MORE SPECS PLEASE!!!!

Cool ship, Adam. One question, from what you have said in your writeup (Sovereign being 1/3 of the packaging required for the Frontier), I'm under the impression that the Frontier class is bigger than a Sovereign. Is that correct? And how much bigger?

And if it's that big, why doesn't it have saucer separation? How many crew can it take? Because if the Warp core is severely damaged, a saucer separation would be the proper thing to do, not abandon ship in little tiny lifeboats.

Sorry for the whining bit, but any decent ship commander would be worried about the safety of his crew.

He said up there that the Frontier is 870m long.

And a saucer separation isn't necessary for warp core breaches except in a Galaxy, w/ its faulty ejection system... :-)

Well, I did see the size, but I don't know how long the Sovereign is.

Erm... Crap. I forget. 680m? 685m? Somewhere in there, I think...

From the amateur view, it reminds me of the result of throwing a Galaxy, New Orleans, and Intrepid into a blender. Nice effect, though.

I remember the days when I went RPGing. I had my own ship to boot at SBV. USS Vitality, Nebula Hybrid. The memories ...

I drew something like this up a few years back. All it was the Galaxys saucer turned 90 degrees and longer nacelles. I thought it looked nice but in today's society in Trekdom it would have been like murder in the real world. However this design is in it a class of its own like the Miranda class is.

Thanks to everyone for your comments. =]

The Sovereign is 685m.

I've been itching to do some specs like I did for the Eclipse, as well as a Dedication Plaque and Development Logo. I might do the specs tonight, but I have no idea what the logo would look like... What image says "Frontier"?

The first thing that comes to my mind is the Frontier from "Last Starfighter"...but barring that, I'd say a fort or a wagon train.
