What's wrong with naming ships after Indian tribes? The US Navy has a long tradition of giving ships Indian names, such as Powhatan, Montauk, Nahant, Weehawken, Pawnee, Choctaw, Tecumseh, etc. Furthermore, traditionally, the names within a class usually follow the name of the lead ship. For example, Los Angeles-class ships are all named after US cities and US battleships are all named after states. So if the lead ship is the name of an Indian tribe, the rest of the ship would also take names of tribes.
With this reasoning, Honshu makes more sense as a sister ship of Kyushu than of Nebula. Of course, post-TOS starfleet did away with any rational naming system. At least the Constitution class ships all took their names from famous warships of the past.

I like the idea of naming support vessels in that fashion, although I followed the Saladin-class method of using important folks when I extended the line. But science vessels after scientists, medical ships after medical folks....sure. Hell, 90% of my Excelsior-class names come from ancient Earth history, my Sonoma-class freighters are named for mountains & islands, my Kings Bay class after waterways, gulf, sounds, & other things like that, & my Proteus-class is named after Sol-system moons & planetary formations.
It's just that the "Well, 'Cheyenne' & 'Ahwahnee' are tribal names, so all these ships must be named after Native Americans" logic train irks me. It makes sense for today's navies t'do with combat vessels...but for a multicultural society like the Federation? :::shakes head::: Hinky.

Personally, I wish that Starfleet had all ships of the class follow the lead ship, but it's too late for that, I guess. If nothing else it brings a little more order to the names and helps you tell which class a ship comes from. The trouble was that a lot of Trek ship names were thought up piecemeal, often without a class whereas in real life names are assigned all at once.
If you think that using Native American tribe names is too limiting, perhaps we could include names of other indigenous peoples (wiped out, or nearly so, by majority races), such as USS Ainu (indigenous people of Japan) or indigenous peoples of other planets?

I'll kill everyone who still says the Cheyenne is an ugly design.
I love the bottom too. Since we don't know what is actually there, I definitely prefer something else than a mirrored upper side. If it's ever revealed what the underside of Miarecki's model looks like there are just two class variants.

But I didn't put any photo-torps on the back, but the bottom pylon assembly loos just like the top. I think there's supposed to be a black dot where the torp launcher is suposed to be, but I didn't paint it. I may fix that later. I would have shown some back views, but my pictures didn't turn out so well.

WOW! Superb work. I've followed the progress of this model for months, its nice to see the final product. You gave me permission to use your New Orleans model on my site, may I assume I can add some pics of this model too? Its just to pretty not to showcase...

About the naming of ships: I've always wished that Starfleet (i.e. TPTB) would name more ships with alien-sounding names to reflect the other 149 Federation planets besides Earth.
