I finished my Cheyenne class model. Again the question, where does the name come from? But otherwise, here are some pics. Hope you like. And please, not too many comments about the non-cannonality bottom. I wanted to spruce it up some. http://www.onlyinla.com/~fructose/models/hopi/hopifront.jpg http://www.onlyinla.com/~fructose/models/hopi/hopibottomback.jpg http://www.onlyinla.com/~fructose/models/hopi/hopitop.jpg The construction info on it is here. P.S. I just have to thanks Bernd for the great diagram! It made life much easier. ------------------ It doesn't matter if you don't know what you're doing as long as you look good doing it. Nice ship...I just wish McDaniel's ship names didn't suck the ass of the dog. Honshu?I>? Someone didn't do their homework. I like the name Hopi, though...as long as they're not all tribal names.------------------ "There are three things I HATE, Jet: kids..pets..& women with attitudes. Very nice job!!What's wrong with naming ships after Indian tribes? The US Navy has a long tradition of giving ships Indian names, such as Powhatan, Montauk, Nahant, Weehawken, Pawnee, Choctaw, Tecumseh, etc. Furthermore, traditionally, the names within a class usually follow the name of the lead ship. For example, Los Angeles-class ships are all named after US cities and US battleships are all named after states. So if the lead ship is the name of an Indian tribe, the rest of the ship would also take names of tribes. With this reasoning, Honshu makes more sense as a sister ship of Kyushu than of Nebula. Of course, post-TOS starfleet did away with any rational naming system. At least the Constitution class ships all took their names from famous warships of the past. I know that, Masao...it's just that I'm not a fan of "all ships in this class are named for" stuff. I can see it, yes...to a point.I like the idea of naming support vessels in that fashion, although I followed the Saladin-class method of using important folks when I extended the line. But science vessels after scientists, medical ships after medical folks....sure. Hell, 90% of my Excelsior-class names come from ancient Earth history, my Sonoma-class freighters are named for mountains & islands, my Kings Bay class after waterways, gulf, sounds, & other things like that, & my Proteus-class is named after Sol-system moons & planetary formations. It's just that the "Well, 'Cheyenne' & 'Ahwahnee' are tribal names, so all these ships must be named after Native Americans" logic train irks me. It makes sense for today's navies t'do with combat vessels...but for a multicultural society like the Federation? :::shakes head::: Hinky. ------------------ "There are three things I HATE, Jet: kids..pets..& women with attitudes. Multiculturalism should be expressed in ship names, but of course 99% of Starfleet ships are already Earth names and more than half may be American or British names. I'm not defending this practice, but since this show is produced in the US and most of the writers are Americans, I guess they can't help it. Personally, I wish that Starfleet had all ships of the class follow the lead ship, but it's too late for that, I guess. If nothing else it brings a little more order to the names and helps you tell which class a ship comes from. The trouble was that a lot of Trek ship names were thought up piecemeal, often without a class whereas in real life names are assigned all at once. If you think that using Native American tribe names is too limiting, perhaps we could include names of other indigenous peoples (wiped out, or nearly so, by majority races), such as USS Ainu (indigenous people of Japan) or indigenous peoples of other planets? ------------------ When you're in the Sol system, come visit the Starfleet Museum

Well, don't rag in McDaniel. I picked both names when I ordered the decals. I messed up the Honshu because I didn't do my reasearch. I thought it made sense at the time. Oh well. And thanks for the compliments. That would be cool if they used my stuff, huh? ------------------ It doesn't matter if you don't know what you're doing as long as you look good doing it.

Wow! Fantastic!I'll kill everyone who still says the Cheyenne is an ugly design. I love the bottom too. Since we don't know what is actually there, I definitely prefer something else than a mirrored upper side. If it's ever revealed what the underside of Miarecki's model looks like there are just two class variants. ------------------ "Species 5618, human. Erick, I meant to ask you, what did you use to create the "bulbs" on the neck ends & did you install photorp tubes on both necks or aft-firing?------------------ "There are three things I HATE, Jet: kids..pets..& women with attitudes. So WHY do we have all THREE on BOARD?!?"--Spike Spiegel

I used the top parts to the Excelsior's warp nacelles. (You know, the small pieces that go on the ends.) I cut off the parts that points toward the center of the nacelles, glued them together and then sanded them smooth. Hope that makes sense. But I didn't put any photo-torps on the back, but the bottom pylon assembly loos just like the top. I think there's supposed to be a black dot where the torp launcher is suposed to be, but I didn't paint it. I may fix that later. I would have shown some back views, but my pictures didn't turn out so well. ------------------ It doesn't matter if you don't know what you're doing as long as you look good doing it.

Just because they aren't making them anymore doesn't mean you can't still find them on the shelves of modeling stores. Hell, I found an Original Enterprise model last year, and I think they stopped making those something like 10 years ago. ------------------ "Ed Gruberman, you fail to grasp Ty Kwan Leap. That's a terrific looking ship built with only a minimal amount of information. If only Miarecki would have been more thorough and taken photos of his original models!About the naming of ships: I've always wished that Starfleet (i.e. TPTB) would name more ships with alien-sounding names to reflect the other 149 Federation planets besides Earth. ------------------ Bart: "Hey, Dad, I'll trade you this delicious doorstop for that crummy old danish." My Galaxy parts comes from a model I've had for 10 years and I got the Excelsior some time last year. I buy them all online through a place that specializes in out of production kits. The original Ent-A model is going for like $90 now days, just to let you know the deal you got on it.------------------ It doesn't matter if you don't know what you're doing as long as you look good doing it.
