Very nice...though it looks post Connie
At least to me

i was gonna say that too, but then i realized the post connie looking design elements were lifted from NX-01.
*ducks*

It looks like a sort of half-step past the normal Connie, in the direction towards the refit.
Nice work!

Ok ok! If anybody think thats a Post-connie. Is it now a post connie.

Hey! Quick, alert Starfleet! Somebody stole a piece of their nacelle pylon!
That piece missing out of the nacelle pylons is cool looking. And I like the darker greyish tones you used, almost makes this ship look more agressive. Maybe its just me but I think the saucer looks lower and closer to the engineering hull to, giving it a kind of a low-rider feel.

It does look more agressive.
Maybe it's a "Mirror Universe" near-TOS-era ship?

Hi. I made the pylones more similar to tos, a few little changes and add my starfleet command insignia.
I will still make other views. cya Lobo

I love your ship, Lobe, but I have one admittedly minor quibble.. the font of the registry. I'm a graphics major, so i take text and fonts pretty seriously, but at the same time i realize that pretty much no one else does, so its not a big deal.
You see, the text on TOS ships (and ENT, thankfully) is a Navy font (most people use a variant called LongBeach) but the origin is that it is the actual typeface used by the US Navy from WWII on on their ships, and also AF planes. Roddenberry and Jefferies, being Naval and Aviation buffs, wanted it like that. Unfortunately, somewhere along the lines, either AMT ERTL or another licensee of Trek started using a thinner thicker font, the computer version is Deusex. Thats the one you have there, although some Enterprising fan called it TOS Hull and offered it on his page. I remember being very upset because two of my TOS models i built as a lad used it (the 3 ship Fed-Kli-Rom set and also my large constitution). I know that several of the boys around here have the correct font for their 3d models and also their 2d graphics. it really helps the look of the ship.
OK, its not that important at all. BTW, this font is still exclusively used by Star Fleet Battles, because they like to be different.

I had the font once, but it got lost in a format. Anyways, it's called Microgramma Bold something-or-other. Do a web search for it and you'll probably find it on a Battlestar Galactica site. That's where I found it.
Also, I really like how you made the front of the saucer similar to the NX-class. Cool!

um.. Microgramma Bold is the font used for Movies and TNG ships.. Im talking about TOS
I downloaded one called USNLongBeach, but it was only a demo, but i actually editted out the demo characters, but i screwed up the 'A' character, and my version is a little distasteful because its a self-made edited crack of a copyrighted demo i shouldnt have stolen. I'll try another search, unless somebody else has it (i know RedAdmiral has the correct font on his 3D models, so maybe he knows, and maybe its shareware)
For post movie ships, i have a font called Palindrome which is a shareware version of Microgramma.
BTW if you believe in Franz and the SotSF boys, between the USN font of TOS and the MG font of the movies/tng, the used Microgramma NOT-bold on ships from the 2260s-70s era.
Posted by Topher (Member # 71) on :
That's what I said. I had different versions of the Microgramma font, and one of them was the TOS font.

Where can i download the right font?
Lobo
Posted by Topher (Member # 71) on :
I'm not sure. I did a search trying to find the site where I had downloaded the font before, but I couldn't find it anywhere. Looks like most people want you to actually pay for this font. Weird.

Love the ship Lobo, a sensible and plausible design, bridging the TOS/TMP eras..
The font I use is called AmarilloUSAF. I've put it on my server so you can download it. I shan't keep it there for too long tho.....
Topher: the USN font is far from the Microgramma font family though, so i dont know why you are considering them related. The only relation between them is that they were both used on different eras of Star Trek. Calling one the other is inaccurate.
BTW, if you really want to get picky about fonts relating to TOS, take note of the fact that there were subtle differences between the smaller 1701 in 'The Cage' and 'WNMHGB' and the large Enterprise seen in most of TOS. The '7' and the '1' were a little different in the decals between the two. Also, the Constellation had a thinner font for its name, in order to fit the space alotted

I even sent in my shareware fee and later bought a copy of Amarillo Pro, which has all the alternate historical characters allowing you to make absolutely correct registries.
Posted by Harry (Member # 265) on :
Eeek!! The AmarilloUSAF Pro page has a sample saying NX-01

Meanwhile, I've taken the shareware into Softy and am busy creating the correct alternate characters to make it ST:TOS (1,7,E,F,Z) so i probably wont be buying it.
