I wish I had the time to make ships.. damn you are good.

Why do you have Nacelle pylons with no Nacelles? Are ya going to add some on? This is a WIP after all.... The main body brings to mind the steamrunner.

Yeah yeah the nacelles coming soon!

I'm curious to see whether the nacelles are above or below the centreline. . . might be quite interesting if they're below. . .
Posted by Aban Rune (Member # 226) on :
Soooo.... cooooool....
I love the shape of the saucer. I also like how the bridgr seems to be slightly forward of the center of the saucer. Somewhat Akira-esque in that way.
Nice.

An interesting design. Perhaps it might be worth trying something a little unconventional here with the nacelles, like say have the pylons emerge from either side of the primary hull instead of the secondary. Similar in a way to the Saber configuration.

Very, very cool. Might we see it with aft-swept nacelles? I'm just wondering...
Posted by MinutiaeMan (Member # 444) on :
Hey, that's a great design! Looks like a frigate-type model -- small and quick. The "ragged" rim of the hull reminds me of the Steamrunner.

I really need to see a side view before I can grok it to fullness. . .

Impressive. Most impressive.

Yeah, I too think aft-swept pylons might look better. Fwd-swept pylons don't tend to look right on otherwise sleek designs (IMO).
If I was going to further nitpick, I'd say the saucer is a little too busy with (unnecessary?) detail.

Thanks! If i would do that, then would it looks like that:

Hmm no. I think the details are ok as they are! Look at the sovereign saucer:
What do you think? Is it overload with (unnecessary) details too?

If you're happy with your work how it is and not open to criticism, then why bother displaying it for people to give their opinions?
I'm sorry if my thoughts offended you but I was just telling it how I see it.
Posted by Lobo (Member # 669) on :
I post pics here because i WANT opinions of the other members(you can see this on other posts in the Designs, Artwork, & Creativity forum). But if someone says that the saucer has to many details and he don't say why then i can't understand what is wrong with the details.

Fair enough, Lobo. With regards to the saucer detailing, it's the large Sovereign style triangular panels at the front that strike me as excessive and out of place. They just don't look right to me -- I can't explain it better than that. Again though, with their removal your design would look more like the Sovereign-class.
Admittedly, I am quite partial to the Ent-E design so I'm likely being prejudice against your design.
Posted by Aban Rune (Member # 226) on :
I don't think there's an excessive amount of detail on the saucer so much as I feel that there's not a balanced amount on the aft sections. For instance, it the aft areas had that a coupel of dark colored panels like the ones on the front of the saucer, it might balance it out visually. Same with some of the grid lines. The aft sections have more open panelling.
I really dig the design, I'm just not crazy about forward swept pylons. Maybe straight-to-the-side pylons ala Voyager?
Posted by NightWing (Member # 4) on :
I hope you don't mind me saying, but I like the first saucer better... The forward swept nacelles struts look cool though
Posted by Lobo (Member # 669) on :
A little update.
As you can see i've changed the support pylons and stretched the nacelles a bit!

Actually, I think your new pylons are perfect.

Yes, not being swept forward or backwards makes them correspond better to the design of the saucer, IMHO.

Here is an small auxiliary ship similar to the Captains Yacht or Aero Wing. It's located on the downside of the saucer.

the side view looks great, but for my taste i like the secondary hull to be broader in the top view. great job, as always, Lobo.

The side view looks great too. I'm gonna need to see that front view now!

Pretty good! It would have looked a little better and more realistic if instead of putting in "Unnamed Class" you had just left it blank.

I have changed the saucer section.

Your new design reminds me of a stingray. Is that the idea? It does look good though. Keep it up!! Have you thought of a class name and a name for the ship?
Posted by EdipisReks (Member # 510) on :
the class name is clearly marked as Unnamed.
Posted by Dax (Member # 191) on :
I hate to say this, but I prefer (and really liked) the pre-stingray version. For me, the diamond shaped saucer doesn't feel right here. Perhaps if the nacelles are further apart?
