What do you think?

Excellent artwork there, Lobo!

I can definitely see the various design elements that are supposed to place this ship in the early 24th century... but based on that side view alone, I think that the ship would work better as a predecessor of the Galaxy-class, maybe around 2340 or so. The secondary hull especially seems too elongated for an earlier time period (though I realize the Excelsior itself had a VERY elongated hull).

Still, I definitely like the design, whatever era it's from. Nice work! [Smile]

That's really nice. Reminds me a little of the Alaska class design, though much nicer.

That'a a very elegant design. Reminds me a lot of what the Ambassador class could have been. I only think that there should be a lower half of the Bussard collector mirroring the upper half.

For the Alaska class, look here for at least one version. The Alaska class was designed as the E-C back in the day.

Alaska class looks like shit. This is better.

Yes, Lobo, this is much, much nicer. Excellent work as always. I really dig the grey indent/notch on the neck. Very cool.

Very nice! There are both point phasers and arrays on the ship, correct? I thought the ship was lacking forward phaser coverage but then I saw those two structures in front of the transporter emitters. Interesting way of showing a "transitional" step between two different eras of phaser technology if it is!

Yes this ship has point phasers and arrays.
It's one of the first starships that uses the "new" kind of Phaser technology.

Quite an impressive ship. What class of vessel are you going to call her? She reminds me of an Ambassador Class starship, at least some of the same features. Good job on the design.

This ship is small isn't it? If we assume those life-boat hatches are the same size as the Galaxy or Intrepid class, then ship ship should about the same size or small than Voyager.

I'm a little confused at the placement of weapons. Mixing point and strip phaser arrays is cool, but there are no forward mounts for the strip variety. Am I missing something here? Are you assuming that the strip phasers at this point are not powerful or reliable enough to warrant forward arc coverage? And if so, doesn't that limit the usefulness of the ship when such phasers become that reliable?

But yes, the ship is really cool. Give us a five-view, and then send it over to bcfils.com so someone can make a Bridge Commander model for it. [Smile]

In my opinion, yes. [Smile] Now, the point emitters are backups if the strips fail!

Hey, that's actually a pretty cool idea, to mix the two kinds of phasers... although IMO there was never any doubt about their viability since they totally replaced the old point phasers on the Ambassador-class. Also, part of the point of having the phaser arrays rather than point emitters was to provide for somewhat wider coverage -- looking at your arrangement, I don't know if the point emitters on the saucer provide any real benefit. (Having point emitters on some of the rear sections where coverage is weaker anyway might be a better idea?)

Rambling comment: I've recently started to wonder why Starfleet ships have such unified armament classifications, especially regarding the phasers. The vast majority of seagoing warships in the past 100 years or so on Earth have had mixed armaments of varying types (the "dreadnought" type battleships being an exception). Take the Galaxy-class, for example -- why not have the two main saucer phasers as their heavy Type-X arrays, and the other ones as Type-VIII's or something? They wouldn't be as powerful, but they might also have benefits of their own -- especially because those emplacements are used a whole lot less.

Anyway, Lobo, this design of yours is really shaping up. I love it! [Cool]

(BTW, have you come up with a name yet?)

Well maybe not the Galaxy class, maybe smaller classes like the Akira class, or the Sabre class. Or perhaps the Norway class? [Wink]
