I was wondering if someone could edit a picture of the NX-01 so the registry and name are changed to that of the Columbia. Thanks.

Just any random picture of the NX-01? Or are you wanting a specific picture changed?

We'll see how accurate that is in a matter of weeks. [Smile]

i doubt the creative staff will see any need to alter the nx finishing details, configuration or signage details. these things cost money you know

How likely is it that they use stock footage of the NX01 only? [Big Grin]

I'd like to think those days are over. After all, given all the Enterprise-shot-to-shit views we had last season. . .

Your baseline is a little off there, Mike. Tsk, tsk.

So is Enterprise's willingness to do more ambitious effects work strictly a factor of improved technology, a higher budget (in which case: uh oh), a little of both, or what?

(I'm also curious whether Voyager and DS9 affected each other's budgets, or were they treated as wholely separate in that regard?)

Consider the big ship battle in "Countdown" - almost as complex as that in ST:FC. And about the same amount of screentime. . .

FC used some physical models though so that had to cost a lot more.
...then there's compositing the filmed sequences with the CGI.....

Apples and oranges.

Separate in a business sense, Im sure, since each's budget was probably determined by their ratings and subsequent sales of ad time, on two different markets (UPN network and Viacom syndication, respectively). However, there is a deeper cost related to the use of property.

Each series shows evidence of budget cuts and savings that were made possible by the use of the others castoffs. Generations, FC, and Insurrection all had props, sets and costumes that were practically "gifted" upon each show's producers. As long as they restricted themselves to finding ways to reuse the films' garbage, they would be able to devote more of their existing budgets to better use. To examine the cross pollination between the series, you simply have to observe where they managed to leech off of each other some. It's surprising some of the situations they managed to save some money by taking advantage of the other (DS9 models in VGR, VGR sets on DS9, etc), but then again, its surprising how some opportunities were passed up.

Well, yes, I'm aware of that sort of thing. I guess what I'm wondering is, if DS9 spent X dollars on blowing things up, did Voyager find itself with Y - X dollars in the blowing things up fund? I'm guessing not, but I'm just curious. Did Berman get two checks or one? And etc. I suppose my question could be abstracted out to any production staff working on multiple shows. (Though I would imagine in most cases they would have separate staff in almost every case other than executive producer. But, like, did Joss Whedon find himself able to buy that shiny new iPod when he had three shows going at once? Does Dick Wolf create a new Law & Order whenever the property taxes are hiked on his palatial estate?)
