This is a pic done by taking Jason Abbadon's ship the USS Heimdall based on Rick Sternbach's original conception for the USS Pegasus and combining it with a planet and starfield created by me.

Neato! Great work as always, Andrew! Nice planet effect there: the subtle atmosphere look often eleudes me nad then I jusy go "borrow" a background from ST:AU.
Gimmie more!

Always wanting MORE! lol.

Yeah...that's me.
I do believe this will make a nice desktop for my home machine.
Wanna play with the space station? Mabye the Norway? I have posted nice blurry pics of the USS Nimitz- a sub-class of the Indomitable just this week.....

I have a larger version if you want - for your background.
I'd be interested in some other comments.
I reckon the planet turned out really well - probably the most realistic of all the pics i've done with your ships Jason.

Showing once again the superiority of physical models over CGI!
Nice work, Andrew and Jason.

..though I cant fathom what that missile thing is for.
Photonic torpedo? Probe? Subspace tranciever?
Andrew- if you could E-Mail me with the larger version of the image, that'd be great: [email protected] Posted by AndrewR (Member # 44) on :
Hey Jason, sorry I just looked - I don't have a larger file - the large file was earlier on in the creation process. Sorry.

Going by Masao's specs on his site it's called a 'Blue Meanie' photon torpedo, presumably more powerful than a standard torpedo of the time as the Penguin only carries 2 of them while it carries 10 standard photon torpedoes.

Damn Enterprise and it's silly jargon to explain the fact that it has photon torpedoes and phasers way too early.

I'm surprised that they don't have shields still.

Don't ever believe the specs on my site. They're the last thing I think about.

Yeah, I'm like that with my ships too: the creative process rarely works that way.
Ever think of updating the Penguin for the DS9 era? You could use the windshield from one of the larger TNG shuttles... I could place it on my upcaoming Perseus class in it's biiig shuttlebay. Your opinion on the sketch is welcomed: http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p=999&gid=3843157&uid=657989 Posted by Masao (Member # 232) on :

Nope! I think fighters had a very narrow temporal and operational niche, which was only around for a few decades. In my fleet, fighters are sort of like PT boats or E-boats and were only used in the early 2200s. I don't know if fighters are going to be useful against capital ships in the 2370s. Of course, if modern trek combat takes place at the speed of highway driving, then I suppose fighters might have a role!

I was thinking of them having a more ground support and evac role.
For the Penguin's size and by the TNG era (with it's miniturized impulse drives) a lot of people could cram into one of those if needed and a small pair of inboard or retractable nacelles could be incorperated to the ventral side.
I'm thinking of something for the Dominion War and conflicts just after. Something like a cross between your Penguin and the Type 7 shuttle with inboard nacelles like the Argo shuttle.

Or retracing nacelles like a puddle jumper...
Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :
I was thinking fold down nacelles (like on the Sovvie Captain's Yacht) only they fold up into the body from beneath.
I must get a new bootleg Illustrator copy.

yeah, to curb my impulse drive.
