Working on a ship (maybe for the Earth-Romulan war) based on the Intrepid from enterprise. Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :
Looking good so far..... I'd like to see something Andorian with those nacelles on it, or mabye something Vulcan. Just to show the sharing of technologies during wartime.

I say round the bussard collectors more - we didn't really see pointy versions until - the Ambassador or was it the Alex Jaeger ships?
Posted by Makotokat (Member # 1041) on :
Remade the nacelles, and started a engineering hull. Posted by Shik (Member # 343) on :
The pylon attachement points at both hull & nacelle look like hinges...is this thing gonna swing? Also, what's the hole under the deflector? Neck attachment point? Have the deflector shooting over the saucer/disc/sphere/whatever?
Posted by Makotokat (Member # 1041) on :
The pilon attachment points are temp, not quite sure how I want to go yet, plus I don't like the idea of pivoting wings on a starship!
The hole beneath is a torpedo tube, I'm considering setting it back a bit though.
At the back of the bottom of the engineering hull is the shuttlebay access.
The Saucer I'm working on at the moment will be in the Traditional position.

Missionary style then?

That could be taken several ways Jason.....
Anyway on with the Update! My wee fella has an upset tummy, so he decided to throw up when I got home from work.....three times... Thus I have had ample time to work on the model as I do laundry at 2:35 in the AM
Recessed the Torp tube, decided to keep the after section of the engineering hull smooth and added a rear deflector array. Mocked up a shuttle based on the dimensions of the ENT shuttle (just for size) and added shuttlebay. Brought over the saucer and fitted the bridge in a low, forward position. Neck added....
Posted by bX (Member # 419) on :
Not sure how I feel about the rear deflector array, but I really like where the overall shape of this thing is headed. Can't wait to see more.
Posted by Makotokat (Member # 1041) on :
Yeah I just threw that in, most likely I will replace it with a somewhat traditional shuttlebay. I'm not happy with the drop bay from a functional standpoint. Unfortunatly my little guys been sick so not much has been done, I had intended to be detailing the saucer by now.
Question. One torp tube capable of multiple torpedoes or TWO smaller tubes, I've been debating that. Any opinions?
Posted by Timo (Member # 245) on :
The trend in the canon universe seemed to be for fewer and fewer tubes as time passed. Perhaps this ship ought to have at least six?
A clustered multi-barrel arrangement might look cool, without being some sort of a super-duper gatling mechanism.

Posted by bX (Member # 419) on :
I don't know, the multi-barrel thing might be too ber (does munchkin apply to ship-design?). I think one would be modest, two would be fine and three might be overkill.
Posted by Makotokat (Member # 1041) on :
I'm going to go with 2 I think....
Posted by Bernd (Member # 6) on :
I like it a lot. Especially since you are going with a traditional arrangement of saucer and nacelles.
Are you going to give the ship metallic hull panels like NX-01 or rather a smooth gray surface like NCC-1701?
Posted by Makotokat (Member # 1041) on :
I'm thinking smooth grey......I'm still not happy with the shuttle bay arrangements in the secondary hull. I've tried several ways and am still left wanting, because in my 'internal' arrrangement (in my mind mostly) I've allocated the top half of the cigar to engineering. Centre top will be an engineering room 60 feet long and 25 feet high, build along the lines of the TOS engineering. Since the hull has a 50 foot diameter at it's widest this takes up a lott of room.....I might cut the bays from 4 to 2. I will post an update this weekend. I've made 2 smaller torp tubes instead of the 1 big one.
What do you think of the leading edge bridge location?
Posted by Makotokat (Member # 1041) on :
Heres a wee update... Posted by Makotokat (Member # 1041) on :
and a little more.....placed shuttlebays and put part of my TOS engineering set in the hull for detail.... and here's the original engineering.... Posted by bX (Member # 419) on :
Wow! Lotta detail. Looking great.
Posted by Trimm (Member # 865) on :
Love the engine room detail.

Here's a look at the internal arrangement so far for engineering Posted by Malnurtured Snay (Member # 411) on :
Nice! Are you planning on modeling a complete interior, or only parts?
Posted by Makotokat (Member # 1041) on :
Maybe not the complete interior just yet....
However I intend to finish the engineering deck, Shuttlebay, and put fake corridors in the windows on the deck below engineering. For the Primary hull I intend to window the main deck and build up the bridge. That hull is next after I finish the enginnering hull. My problem is that I need to know what is in the hull, as that defines it as far as form. I have been dying to build a really big engineering deck and now I can.
She will be nice when shes done though....Then I'll have to name her.....Something mythical and martial along the lines of the Iliad maybe....

Another change....undercut the side area for power conduits and work access. Also gives more workspace around the (soon to exist) warp engine Posted by Makotokat (Member # 1041) on :
And yet more detail.... Posted by Shik (Member # 343) on :
With a crew of Stickfas. keen.

Mabye the black death star flooring is a rubber mat: standing all day in engineering must be murder otherwise (not to mention falling off that frikkin ladder!).
Posted by Makotokat (Member # 1041) on :
Well it is a studio floor after all.....Such floors are concrete and are covered with a polymer layer that fills in dips in the floor and gives a flat surface that you can move a camera dolly across effortlessly. Stinks to high heaven as well as it cures. Now you know a wee bit about TV Studios. That said, it is the same colour I took from my engineering set for TOS, which had a black glossy studio floor. A grid will be put down this weekend.
Posted by Bernd (Member # 6) on :
Great. I like how you reconcile the two styles of engineering (TOS and TMP).

It's...different. Is that how it will look finished, or is this a sort of cutaway?
Cool, but diferent.

This is turning into a bad Pokemon episode.
Nice ship though, hopefully it will have a name and registry and will be given some color as well as some fine details.

If that's a standard TOS shuttle lurking under the secondary hull, the Aegis is a very small ship.
Posted by bX (Member # 419) on :
It's just a baby starship.
