The two-part season opener was last night. As penance for having "Enterprise" earlier than you, I have to wait for a download. What did everyone think?

First off, I should say that I definitely enjoyed the show, even though I wasn't too clear on some of the details of what was happening, and the background. (I did know who Daniel Jackson was, at least. )
But there were just so dang many in-jokes in the visuals with this episode, it was bordering on the ludicrous. Here's the ones I spotted:
-- Didn't seem like he was a new character, but Anubis appears to be a ripoff of Emperor Palpatine. -- The footage of the Big Bad Ship could've been ripped from the Death Star's reactor in "Return of the Jedi" too... -- Seeing the Big Bad Ship over the alien city was a clear reference to "Independence Day"... -- Did anyone thing of "You're required to maneuver straight down this trench..." as the attack fighter was skimming along the surface there? -- Nice to know that "Star Wars" doesn't hold a monopoly on Imperial Stormtroopers letting people wander the halls. Especially one quick shot in the second half with Jackson wandering the halls, and we hear (and see) a squad of those silly armored guards go clanking past in the background, just like Obi-Wan did in his time. -- I thought the old "radiation effects can be predicted down to the second" schtick was exclusively Trek's domain!
Anyway, I kinda liked the story. Enough to keep watching, at least. It's definitely better than "Andromeda" is these days, at the very least...

Well, strictly speaking, you can predict radioactive decay pretty well, at least to a certain point. Why a radioactive isotope would hide you from sensors, I really don't know. And I think the real question is, did anyone NOT think of Star Wars?

He is at that. Anubis showed up over the course of season 5 as the new Big Bad Guy. He was a banished Goa'uld, removed as a System Lord for doing some some really bad things.
To fill in what's going on, Anubis is a partially-ascended Goa'uld, who is stuck somewhere between human and the Ancients' noncorporeal form. He has some of the power of the Ancients, but as a result isn't so popular with the girls.

Well, to be honest - how many ways CAN you do a big circular ship floating over a city? Anubis's ship has been around since the last season's finale, and is in the atmosphere mostly to terrorize the Kelownans and to provide a plot devide to reduce the effectiveness of his shields.

Anyone ever think about those sound effects? That armor really must chafe!
Well, the hall wandering is a cliche that goes as far back as any pirate movie when the prisonners escape. Given the immense size of these ships for their complement (they can be flown solo if necessary), it's not THAT silly a thought. I'm just wondering what has caused the corridors to shrink so much over the years. This is the fourth or fifth time we've seen the ship hallway sets change - for the same design.

For those that don't know, spoofage has been a big part of SG-1 since it started. Like when O'Neal (with two Ls)said "he's not a Real Jaffa, but he does play one on TV". The reactor room scene HAD to have been a poke at Star Wars. the season opener was full of them. O'Neal even wanted to call the fighter RED FIVE.
One of my favorite episodes is the 100th episode, WORMHOLE EXTREME, where they investigate a really bad hollywood show that based on the Stargate program.

That last exchange wouldn't be nearly as funny if the two people talking were a) the actual director of the episode, and b) his real-life brother.
"Wornhole X-Treme!" is the funniest self-parody episode of any sci-fi show I've ever seen. The comedy episodes of SG-1 are consistently funny funny. Like "1969", "Window of Opportunity (the time-loop episode), "The Other Guys", and "Deadman Switch", among them. Hell, most NORMAL episodes can be extremely funny themselves.

Oh, yes, the time loop was great! "I'm in the middle of my backswing!!!"
What really pisses me off is that Sci-Fi has yet to air reruns of S5! They did S1-4, then a bit of S1&2, and now they're into S3 somewhere in another cycle. Lots of stuff happened that season, and I want to see it!!!
Oh, and it was "Red Leader".
