Agreed. Look how many shows have been saved by letter-writing campaigns: Star Trek, Quantum Leap, La Femme Nikita... Those are the only ones I can think of right now, but there's probably a couple more.

I don't think its a matter of 'saving' the show, just ensuring that they'll keep making episodes... if that makes sense...

No, you're right. It's one thing if the TV-companies want to cancel it even if the producers and directors of the show is going strong, like in S:AaB, but when the creators and actors themselves want out, then you've got trouble on the homefront.
