Does anyone have a picture of the Great SpaceBall Fortress from "SpaceBalls"? I think we see her full length before she transforms into the maid.

Perhaps someone's made a 3D-mesh out of her!

I know the model's probably made out of egg-cartons and shit, but it would be fun to see all those segments...

I've got a picture of her. She's even moving. You just need a VCR to watch it!!!

Actually, have you guys heard about FMD? Fluorescent Multilayer Disc? It's a DVD-killer.
The manufacturers say it's 15 times bigger than a DVD and 200 times bigger than an ordinary CD-ROM. A CD-ROM = 650mb, so an FMD-disc = ~130 GigaByte...

It is made out of ten transparent layers lying on top of eachother. Man this development is going too fast. No average joe has a use for even a 40Gb harddrive.

I have 550 mp3- and wavsongs and 4 gigs of pictures and movies, yet I don't need more than perhaps 15Gb on my HD, this market is going too fast for its own good.

Well there you go! Must be fun doing Scandisk, huh? "Lalalalaaah...Fuitt-fui-fuiitt.."

Actually, I've abandoned all hope of getting any pictures of "SpaceBall-1", or even serious retorts, so we can take the storage-device discussions to the new thread in Officer's. Nice 'n tidy, eh, KRENIM?? (is he listening?)

This would support my theory on equipment. For example in the video game business, back then companies would put out a new system every 5-8 years to keep up with competition and technology. In between would be great games, not-so-great games, and the shittiest games you'll ever see in your lifetime. That's where they make there money because kids would line up outside to get a new supposed great game. Now its different, companies would bring out the best system ever developed that started out on N-64, then DreamCast, and now Playstation 2. During there hieght, they would be in ranges of $200-$400. This is there major money maker not the games themselves. In between to pass the time, the companies would bring out a couple OK games and mostly shitty games I described to you before. Perfect example is N-64 with their shit Pokemon games. About half og N-64 games is fucking Pokemon! Now in 2 years Nintendo with be out with N-2000. Woohoo I can't wait!(Yeah right) By the way Sega will be stopping production of Dreamcast in a few months and in a year or two will be out with Dreamcast II.

Isn't the 'N-2000' named GameCube?

And Sega has gotten out of the console business altogether.

Matrix, you could not possibly be more misinformed. There's a reason more money goes in and out of console games then computer games.

The death of the DreamCast has been, I am told, "greatly exaggerated". At least their homepage says so...

Pokmon games on the N64:

Pokmon Stadium,
Pokmon Stadium 2,
Picachu Genki Decku
- the one with the microphone, and
Pokmon Snap.

Hmm. Four.
That's a lot. We've nine games at home, and none of them are Pokmon related.

Sort your rants out before you waste anyone else's time, Matrix.

There is a very, very simple reason why console games make more money than PC games.

Everyone pirates PC games, there are much fewer people that pirate console games(well if you exclude emulators ;D)

And btw, PC games are way, way, way better. Because consoles use inferior old technology. Computers use Windows to kind of even it out, but people that use a non Msoft OS have a clear advantage over consoles.

I didn't mean that HALF of all the games were Pokemon but half od the money made is Pokemon related. Let me ask you this how long was it when the first Playstation was out? How long was Dreamcast was out before it became behind even N-64? How long did Nintendo wait before making the Super NES then N-64?

N-64 is still popular because the games they make are fairly good, I'm not saying that PS and PS2 are not good either, its just that Nintendo has a reputation in the console business. Gamecube or whatever it called is being developed because of two reasons: 1. increased pressure from Dreamcast and PS2. 2. Make more money.

Despite Nimrod's kindly attempt to keep this thread on topic, it seems as though we've somehow wandered into the realm of video game economics. While an interesting topic in and of itself, it doesn't really qualify as a sci-fi topic, and therefore (after much pondering), I've decided to close this thread. Should you wish to continue discussing the economics of the video game industry, please do so in the Officers' Lounge (or, should you think it a volatile enough topic, the Flameboard ).
