IMHO, I really don't think the two look all that similar to each other.

If indeed they are similar to one another, then it's Star War COPYING Star Trek, cuz Star Trek came first.

The link (if any) would probably lie in ILM producing models for both Universes.
Look at the Merchantman from STIII, it looks more Star Wars than Star Trek. Ditto for the Spacedock model.

I don't think that's an ILM ship. I think it's just one out of a book.
And it resembles a BoP about as much as a Y-wing resembles a D7/K't'inga or a Vor'cha.

Many spaceships look similar if you break it down but these "hapan" ships are not exactly canon Star Wars material. Since they were created after the ships present in the SW-films the ties between them (no pun intended) are pretty vague.
Besides, when people say "Star Wars Ships" they usually mean blocky, detailed, pale ships with tons of little bolts, angles and equipment on the outside of the hull like on the star destroyers, corellian designs or X-Wings and Y-Wings. These "Hapan" ships are not typical SW-ships.

who cares if it's canon or not. they were in the books, so that's good enough for me. if you only looked at the conon ships then star wars would be a pretty dull universe.

Man, I just love these nerds that post "who cares?" in reply to other people's posts. It's just so encouraging.

Some people would say that the Star Wars universe would be a much better place if you only looked at "canon".
