i'm watching Evangelion again (this is the third time). i had forgotten how much the characters got under your skin. when Shinji is holding Kaoru in unit 01's hand at Terminal Dogma, i can feel the pain and indecision. good writing and (at least for the Japanese language version) fantastic voice acting is what does it. i don't think there is any other show, whether live action or Anime, that effects me the way Evangelion does. i wish that Shinji had been able to have a happy childhood. he was on the verge, and it was taken from him. oh well, instrumetality took care of everyone, i guess.

It's not often that you find people who feel sorry for Shinji. I've met too many people who just criticized him to no end.

what is there to criticize him about? he did the best he could with what little he had.

Because people think he's just a spineless wimp, period. I think many people who criticizes him are simply to afraid to acknowledge the fact that they themselves have been like Shinji in some way.

Have you seen End of Evangelion yet, Edipis? I saw it for the first time last weekend and was blown away -- an awesome end to an awesome series IMO.
Anyway, I'd have to say that Shinji is my favourite character in the series and it's scary how much I can relate to him. He reminds me a lot of what I was like when I was younger.

yes, i've seen End of Evangelion. it is extremely incredible. Death and Rebirth is also very good. the characters of Evangelion really make the show. much more than mere Mecha or combat ever could.
