Looking forward to this film, especially Lady Deathstrike.
There's just one thing, Senator Robert Kelly (Bruce Davidson) is to be in this movie too, didn't he dissolve into water in the first movie? How can they possibly have saved him?
The floor under the sickbed must've been dirty, they can't resurrect a dirty senator, can they?

At the end of the last film, Smurfette was impersonating the senator. I figger she isn't done yet - but Davison's role will be considerably smaller this time, I'm sure.

Well, how do you know he actually died? Maybe he's now able to turn into water, and then change back into human form at will?

I really want to see this ... shame I won't be in the country when it comes out. I'll have to wait until September or October to see all the new summer movies. Another sequel I really want to see is 2 Fast, 2 Furious. I know there are people who thought the first one sucked, but I love it, and the sequel looks pretty cool too.

I enjoyed X-Men, but I didn't walk out of the theater thinking "wow, that definitely warranted a sequel!" Material-wise, it's thinner than Storm (a war between mutants and happy owners of non-messed up DNA!). If it translates well to the big screen, then great. If it doesn't... then stick to the cartoons.

It's not that it was a particularly bad film as much as it was a total rip off of Point Break, which was still a much better film (note the lack of digital effects and the focus on characters).

Maybe so. Then again the main appeal for The Fast and the Furious is the cars. I love the cars in that movie; Mazda RX-7, a couple Nissan 240SX's, Toyota Supra, Mitsubishi Eclipse, etc. The sequel features prominently the mac-daddy of all import street racers the legendary 1999 Nissan R34 Skyline GT-R.
As for X-Men. I could Fox making a sequel if it did well. I enjoyed the movie the first time, but found it difficult to sit through in repeat viewings.

Really - with the ending in the plastic prison and the unresolved story lines reguarding Wolverine, Senator Kelly/Mystique etc. It was SCREAMING for a sequal. Especially with Charles and Eric's banter!
I can't wait to see more Charles, Eric, Marie, Logan, Ororo, Jean, Scott, Bobby etc. And possibly more mutants now like Collossus, more Pyro, more Iceman, more Jubilee, more Kitty Pride!!

Ahh, I had not much clue on the X-men before I saw that movie. I may have seen the TV cartoon a few times in episodes here and there. Really knew nothing about anything. I ended up seeing "X-men" 5 times - I'd never seen a movie that many times before. Closest was First Contact with 3.

I'm looking forward to the sequel too, though I was really hoping it would focus alot on Wolverine. His back story is itching to be explored a bit.
And yes, I would love to see more of the X-Men, especially Colossus, Kitty Pride, ooh... and if it's not dreaming too much... Nightcrawler... Now *that* would be worth my admission fee.

$$$$$ Spoiler Warning $$$$$
Take a look at the trailer, the blue fuzzy one is indeed featured in the new film.

That's right. I wonder if they've gotten a german gymnast playing him, that would be keul.
It would be a shame if all the acrobatics would be done in CGI, it looks so obvious (Blade II Ninjas *cough*, Spiderman *slobodorf*). That's one of the few gripes I have with the new age of cinema...
Also, Gambit.

Alan Cumming is Nightcrawler.
Alan Cumming! YAY! Though, I mean, X2 or whatever silliness they're calling it, is not necessarily a good showcase for his actingnessism. It's a show for Jackman's actingnessism. Which I'm sure he has. Really. Like a modern Brando. Really.
(Because, I'm sarcastically implying that perhaps I do not think of him as great an actor as possible. But he does what Wolverine needs. So, who loses? No one.)
Posted by Nim (Member # 205) on :
I think he did the role goodly, except he couldn't find the appropriate feral growl and snarl, for those really special Logan moments. Instead, they opted for his samurai-training and professionalism, which also works for now.
And they could've padded him up a bit, Logan should be a bit wider, sturdier.
Alan Cumming, you say. Earlier stagename, Buck Naked?

Anyone got a link?
I'll check quicktime's site...

There are two, they have basically the same lines but differing footage, I think the first one was best. And Logan has a better growl now. :-)

Ok... I'm on board. They had better have Nightcrawler doing the teleportion thing though.
One thing that scares me a little bit is when they show him running on all fours... it looks a little bit too much like they're holding the guy up by a wire attached to his belt and he's just moving his arms and legs... I don't know... I'll wait for the movie to make any decisions...
No Colossus, though.... at least not that I saw.
Posted by The_Tom (Member # 38) on :
I saw Alan Cumming interviewed on Conan O'Brien about two weeks ago (one of the absolutely most side-splittingly funny interviews I've ever seen, FWIW) and he mentioned that Nightcrawler will teleport.
Posted by Aban Rune (Member # 226) on :
I'm not *overly* impressed with the makeup... but it could very well look much better on film. I hope his hands look a good deal better. Maybe this is his far shot makeup and his closeups will be a bit nicer.
I do like the clothes, though. I believe Nightcrawler was raised by Gypsies.
Posted by Hobbes (Member # 138) on :
What is that, a rip in the bottom of his pants?
Posted by Nim (Member # 205) on :
No, probably a patch of stretch-fabric, for great agility.
I for one AM impressed by the makeup! And I thought the crawl-footage looked nice, like a cartoon-cat. First I recoiled at the mention of Cumming, I didn't care much for his "Boris" in GoldenEye ("Ai am invinsiebol!"), but this looks promising.
Also, nice to see McKellen back in villain pants.
I totally worship him as Gandalf, but I grew up watching the 1982 version of "The Scarlet Pimpernel" with McKellen as Chauvelin, set in the french revolution. He plays good villains.

I don't see why they wouldn't have him teleporting, since they've already shown one of the kids doing it in the first movie. As for the quadruped run it looks like they've used the same wire technique that was used on Burton's "Planet of the Apes", so it should look ok in an enclosed space.
Posted by Sol System (Member # 30) on :
The space there is where they digitally insert the tail, I believe. He mentioned this during the aforementioned interview.
Posted by Nim (Member # 205) on :
Ah, someone's keeping tabs, I see. :-)
I think I'll buy the X-Men 1.5 SE-DVD when it comes here. I never bothered to buy the first one, maybe this will make it worth it. It seems they've re-transferred it, so the audio & video is cleaned up a bit.

I think comments about Hugh Jackman not being squat like Wolverine etc or little growls are really just superfluous. That character could have been a laughing stock - but Hugh Jackman MADE Wolverine. He was true to the character (he was told not to read any X-men comics but some friends got him like nearly the whole back catalogue) and he added nuances to the role that weren't called for in the script like him adding "bub" in there in the scene in the Statue of Liberty. So that was bloody awesome. Having been someone that never really had seen much X-men before seeing the movie. Hugh Jackman won me over from the first scene.
Everyone was cast really well. Sir Ian, Patrick, Anna, Rebecca, Hugh, Bruce, James, Halley, Ray, Tyler and the lovely Famke!

Disagree. Storm should have been Iman. Other than that, magnificent casting.

I think Halle was good for Storm. She pulls it off fairly well in my book. She does just enough of an accent to make her kind of smokey and mysterious.
Nightcrawler needs to teleport. Not just because it's a cool power, but because it was central to the character's abilities. Having Nightcrawler without teleporting would be akin to making Colossus just some big, strong Russian guy that was invulnerable, but not giving him armor.
Posted by Nim (Member # 205) on :
You needn't woory about that either, my fine fellow.
I'm very confident they'll make his organic steel lifelike and cool.
Posted by Aban Rune (Member # 226) on :
NO WAY! Is that seriously Colossus? Or is it just some background kid?
*crosses fingers*
I've got no problem with them messing a little with the characters' ages so that some of them are still students while Cyclops and Jean et al are grown already. Just as long as they keep their powers and personalities true to form.
Posted by AndrewR (Member # 44) on :
I'd love to see what some of those other kid's abilities are. I'm sure not all mutants had abilities that would allow them to go out and fight the baddies. Maybe some are more beneign. Like the ability to control plants or something - although that could come in handy. The ability to always make a nice breakfast or something!?!
In the X-men (comics I guess) were there non-mutants who were friends with the X-men/Charles etc?

most wierd non-superpower mutants have been explored in the comics, sometime over the past 40 years (anniversary! 1963!!) but mostly within the past ten, since the premiere of Gen X, and the new X-Force/Statix/whatever.. there have been non-mutant allies, but i believe the movies are staying true to the original concept, the pre- new X-men stigma where they werent allowed to even admit their powers to non-mutants (as in the comics, pre-69).. and a lot of the source material of the 60s comics is mixed with the 80s Jim Lee revival scene, as was the cartoon (Sen Kelly, Mutant Registration, etc)

FOX played X-Men a couple of days ago and since the only other thing on was "First to Die" on NBC, I watched it. They had some clips from X2 on it. Some of it was stuff form the trailers online, but some of it was new. One of the scenes is Logan fighting with one of the soldiers...
"You're in the wrong house, bub." SNICKT!!
Another is Colossus coming through a door and activating his armor. It looks way sweet.
It looks like the attack on the school will be a big part of the movie. Obviously, it'll at least be a very big scene.
