I'm currently reading Order of the Phoenix, and I got to thinking - who's going to play all these characters? As in, is there anyone left to play them?! For example, I was wondering exactly how corporeal Voldemort (it's been two years since I read book four) is, or will be - will there ever be an actor playing him, and if so, who could do it?

I immediately thought Gary Oldman for some reason. Slight snag, however - he's currently filming Prisoner of Azkaban as Sirius Black. So then I thought David Thewlis - nope, he's in that too, as the new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher (keeping track of these names is worse than keeping track of everyone involved in the Watergate scandal).

I'll admit I'm being rather Brit-centric in my thinking; but then few (if any) actors from outside the British isles have had significant parts in any of the films so far. And since at the current rate we'll likely not see the last film come out until 2010, I guess there's plenty of time for some actor who's either not yet started in the industry, or is still very minor, to achieve the kind of stature we'd expect of someone playing You-Know-Who.

One never knows, Christian Coulson (Tom Riddle in Chamber of Secrets) might get the job. . .

Incidentally, I even wondered who could play the toad-like Professor Umbridge, and thought either Miriam Margoyles or Dawn French, both of whom are already playing other characters. I just can't win.

Just go for Jessica Alba. She has significant parts.

I'll get me coat.

Just to throw out some names, why count out Pierce Brosnan or Christian Bale?

Christopher Lee. Would be a crowning career achievement after LotR and SW.

How about a CGI-version of Margaret Rutherford? [Big Grin]

Perhaps we overestimate Star Wars and Harry Potter VI, or whatever. He does have the Fu-Manchu series to consider.
