What do you ladies and gentlemen think of the plans of Andrew Mark Sewell and Paul Darrow to develop a new Blake's Seven mini-series for television that occurs thirty years after the events of the series finale?
I wouldn't be interested, but Paul Darrow(Avon), a good friend of series creator Terry Nation, is involved and Andrew Mark Sewell seems to understand what attributes made the original Blake's Sevensuch an interesting and entertaining program.
I think that many SF fans treat the show unfairly, especially in the United States, because of its low-budget production values. But it was the acting of Gareth Thomas, Paul Darrow, Jacqueline Pearce, and Brian Croucher and the storylines that kept me interested and made me a big fan of the program. Many of the episodes brought a smile to my face because of their cleverness. I also point the series out as an example that it's story and acting that makes a good and successful science fiction series, not special effects and high production values.

I always thought Blake's 7 was one of the most intelligent and clever sci-fi series ever.I was often reminded of the show as I watched Farscape.
I never held the low budget look against them, or Dr.Who, or Starlost, etc. not all British sci-fi could look like Space:1999 in those days!
I'm looking forward to the new Blake's 7 , I hope it is half as good as the original!

But...didn't everyone die?
Actually, that works to their advantage.
Sentence fragments.

I guess Avon is the only one who survived if Paul Darrow is attached to the project. We never saw Avon actually get shot by Federation troops, we just got a close-up of Paul Darrow's face and then heard the sound of Federation weapons being fired as they went to the end titles.
I hope that they find a creative way to explain how he survived all these years, because the implication was that he was killed along with the remaining members of the Scorpio crew.
Roj Blake certainly is dead because the story goes that Gareth Thomas would come back to do the last episode provided that Blake died at the end.
But it makes more sense to me that the Federation killed Avon along with the rest of them. The Federation always seemed to be intelligent and ruthless.
Well hopefully we will get to see Blake's Seven: A Rebellion Reborn, or should it be Avon's Seven?, and find the answer to this question. Hopefully they answer this question in an intelligent way.

"Well now", sadly the "B7" project has hit a major problem with many FANS including myself, who looked forward to the series being revived from when events on Gauda Prime, kiiled all but, dear old AVON in the final episode "BLAKE"!!!
"PAUL DARROW" split with the company and is no longer involved and so, will no longer be playing "AVON". However, the character is still going to be used as planned and the company doing the revival simply plan to re-cast "AVON".
Thereby, making many "AVON/B7" FANS angry and, many want the character now dropped from the so-called new mini-series - IF it ever gets made.
"PAUL" was, is and, always will be, "AVON" and, that is an inescapeable fact. The character, unlike the "DOCTOR" - "JAMES BOND" - "SHERLOCK HOLMES" was, not formatted to be done by a different actor, (however good, bad or, indifferent that would be). As, 99.9% of "AVON" came from, "PAUL" in the voice/facial expressions, etc - something that could not be copied by a different actor. Who would be "AVON" in name only - not the REAL ONE!!!
More information regarding the above can be found at:
I am an "AVON" FAN first and, a "B7" FAN second and, as a result of a certain companies messing with our favourite show, to which we've stayed loyal to for the past 26 years is not on. This FAN (and, I'm not alone) is no longer interested in seeing their travesty of a revival.
Which sadly, won't as, they say a tribute to the late "TERRY NATION'S" brilliant creation!!!

Anyway, I've heard of the show, but have never seen it. Anyone care to give me plot synopsis, cause this has got me all interested and stuff.

Awwwww.... not fair..
I must admit, I've never seen Blake's 7; it hasn't been repeated recently and I was too young for the original. The remake looks fairly interesting though.

Fudge.
Very well. You distract Liz-Anne and I'll rush the newbie to safety. That's the only way to stop her.
--- I hope that whatever they do they handle it better than the BSG remake, while I enjoyed that many didn't and we don't wan't to "ruin" another show. Though I suspect that some will cry "ruin" no matter what they do.

Thanks for the WELCOME "Elizabeth Anne" - I maybe a newbie on this Forum but, not on many others.
Like my username "AVON" I have a very similar nature and, have been a FAN of both the series and that particular character from when it was first shown. So, I don't take prisoners!!!
The new Revival that is planned will upset many as what they intend doing will ruin the original just, as much as what ruined the Revival of "BATTLESTAR GALLACTICA".
"TERRY NATION" wanted the premise to continue with "AVON" being brought out of a 25-plus exile somewhere and, leading into a new group (a new "SEVEN" that come together as did the original).
One of the reaons many FANS are extremely unhappy with what they are intending is it will not have:
"AVON" played now by "PAUL DARROW" (WHO for many has kept the show alive along with original loyal FANS for the past 23 years. Prior to the split with a certain company it had always been known that "PAUL" would be playing the "AVON" character in the new mini-series - in press reports going back too 2000. "Without "PAUL" I doubt that a certain company would have got the rights from KATE NATION ("TERRY'S" widow) and, THE NATION ESTATE in, the first place. So, to suddenly say, after the split that "PAUL" was never doing the role in the first place not, only was news to "PAUL", I suspect, but to the rest of US "B7" FANS too. (Definitely, hiiting below the belt!!! )
So, the re-casting issue is definitely a sore subject that on some Forums has split FANS. Not a good thing for a company who supposedly say they loved the original and intend to make a worthy tribute to it. They as, most FANS who were initially on their now defunct website Forum have discovered they are more interested in "BLAKE'S SEVEN" becoming a BRAND - IMAGE and, what MONEY they can make out of a 26 year old series. So, things do not bode well for the so-called "B7" Revival in 2005.
They also angered folk with the delaying of bringing out the series 1 DVD's (which have constanly been put back and again delayed until March). By, which time the series 3 re-mastered 25th Anniversary video box set will be out again!!! (at least they have come out when they were promised).

Why do they always say this? Is there some global standard of board-membership duration we're not aware of? Charles, you're a wiz with this software, why not create a new account where you specify what other boards you belong to and for how long, and this gives you some sort of global-board-membership-coefficient. Then, when obvious old hands like this AVON here turn up, we'll be able to look at their rating and say "A+++ with cherry on top, oak leaves and bar? This person has no life, but is plainly One Of Us."
Nah, only kidding. This is the big leagues, kid, You could have chat credentials going back to the founding of DARPANet and we wouldn't care. People remain newbies here until they get offended at something I've said and leave. Which hasn't happened yet this year so I have quotas to maintain. 8)

And, I've yet to leave any Forum (with the exception of the "official" now defunct - "Blake's 7.com" one which, closed down on all its members without any notice.)

I thought the IRISH folk have a sense of HUMOUR - 99.9% do and, YOU obviously don't???
With luck this "B7 Rebellion" will never take place!!! They haven't got the finances YET and, after what they've done so far, very much doubt anyone interested, initially, in backing the project, will do so now!!!

In the final scene, we see Avon with a goofy smile facing Elizabeth Anne and as the image fades to black we hear the fire of federation weapons.
Then in the closing titles we see Styrofoaman dutifully vacuuming up the ashen remains of the newbie.

Oh Yeah!!! "AVON" was still standing at the end of the original "BLAKE" episode - SO, if yours is a faithful remake - this "AVON" (newbie) will still be standing too!!!
