Hi guys
I was just wondering if anybody has or knows what the new Battlestar is going to look like? I have hear some rumors that it is no were near the original great old lady but something way off. If what I have heard is true it then I guess good old Ron Moore has pretty much wreck BG with his so called re-imagining garbage.

Starbuck has a sex change, Tigh got bleached, and Glactica looks like a pregnant guppy from the side....

So it'll be GREAT!

Thank goodness they're not changing the Viper's appearance, though!

To be honest, though, I'd suggest withholding judgment to see the final CGI's in action... I remember seeing a preview sketch of the Serenity before "Firefly" aired... that looked like shit, too, because it didn't give a clear sense of its perspectives and coloring, or even really its shape. Hopefully, the ships will look better in action.

(This is assuming that everyone's not just hating the designs just because they're not reproductions of the originals.)

There appears to be one bright spot, though... we're finally going to figure out how the Galactica achieves FTL travel! [Wink]

Battlestar Galactica was amazing in it's original incarnation.

Any attempts to make it different are not wanted Mr. Moore.

Not wanted at all.

Why mess with the best?

Addendum: In browsing that site further, I found a concept sketch for one of the civilian ships in the "ragtag fleet," and the ship is compared to the OLD Galactica! Kinda confusing... though I suppose it could just be an early sketch from before the Galactica's redesign was completed. Hope springs eternal, though...

Good point, especially since Zoic, the same company that provided FIREFLY's superior fx work, is doing GALACTICA.

I am still boycotting the SciFiChannel (between cancelling FARSCAPE and not picking up series proposals like David Gerrold's STARHUNT and the way they carve up old TREK when they run it, there just ain't much to admire about them at all), but I suppose I'll see this BG on DVD when I get one of those 'rent one/get 2nd one free' offers from BLOCKBUSTER next year (that's how I finally wound up seeing ATTACK OF THE CLONES, too.)

Ugh...just watched a few trailers. And it looks like a Paul Verhoevan treatment. Another series ruined.

Cylon fighters are large droids now (sound familliar?) with no crews and they fire missiles wit long contrails in space.
Pretty high tech.

New Cylons are Terminator-esque humanoids (sure saves on costumes, I'll bet!) with some rare older "centurian" redesigns in CGI.

Oh, I can't wait to read the reviews here in Dec....

What do you expect? Can't wait for Lucas to sue them again! And now they get to add Cameron to their list of enemies. Oh, the joy of being a ragtag production......

Am I the only one who's honestly looking forward to it, then? I've watched the original "Galactica" series, though not all of the episodes. I've enjoyed them, and think that they were very good for their time. But I'm also very eager to see what Ron Moore has up his sleeve. I respect the opinions of fans who don't want to see the original formula messed with -- and I do wonder whether a new original story might've been a better way to go -- but I'm still interested to see what "Galactica" will be like now. The previews, although limited, make it look pretty darn interesting. The new dimensions added to Baltar's character, the new deviousness and generally greater intelligence given to the Cylons... I think it's got some promise. (But then, so did "Andromeda" years ago... [Razz] )

Yes, I know I'd probably feel quite different if it were a TOS remake we were talking about here... but, well, so it goes...

I remember hating the look of the E-D at first.

Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :

Enterprise D was a radical departure though: this just looks like a bad fan design from the sketch.

BSG was a mainstay of my childhhod television experience, along with TOS, so if it is screwed up it will be sad....

What I don't understand is why would they want to redesign Galactica? As I understand, Vipers remained unchanged and we will be told that they are 'old' Vipers (and new types of fighters will be there, too), so why this reasoning could not be applied to the Galactica as well?

It's not like there's something wrong with Galactica design... To me, it still looks great and convincing.

(and Starbuck as a woman? Puhleeeze...)

Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :

Actually, the Vipers are partly redesigned too.
They're not as sleek: thicker in the fuselage mainly.
Also, the new Vipers are spotless- with wax coating.
I shit you not: ZERO weathering. No grease, dirt or anything that could make the prop look actually "in use".

There's also an "advanced viper" tat looks a bit like Richard Hatch's Scarlett Viper.

Posted by Kazeite (Member # 970) on :

Hm... like Teal'c would say, "Indeed." So they redesigned Vipers too.

Although that wax coating is kinda understendable - they are museum pieces, after all [Smile]
Let's see how they'll look after couple of episodes.

I preferred the old viper design. Big and Ugly in that beautiful sort of way.

Hi Guys
I was just wondering why Ron Moore refuses to take BG from where it left off in 1978 but update from here forward instead up this stupid revision crap? Anybody hear on what his thinking is away, or is it that he had a idea for his own story new he couldnt get I sold and instead he hijacked BG .
Thanks

Posted by Ultra Magnus (Member # 239) on :

Probably because the 1978 show was nigh unwatchable, and he'd like to, you know, try and put out a watchable product. It being TV and all.

Posted by Reverend (Member # 335) on :

TV has to be watchable now?

Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :

Partly, it's a fued between BG's owner (whose name I cant remember to save my life) and Richard Hatch (who's been pushing a fan film he produced that takes place 15 years after the series).

Hatch's version sounds a hell of a lot better and keeps the main characters around but older and Apollo's in charge after Adama went to the big Alpo commercial in the sky.

No hot female terminator Cylons though, so there'd be no sci-fi channel obligatory sex scenes to throw in for cheap ratings.

So when "Enterprise" goes buh-bye its a great bet that Sci-fi will pick it up and continue it. Are ears the only things pointy on Vulcan females?

From "Broken Bow," we know that Vulcans do indeed have other pointy body parts. Or that the decontamination chamber is maintained at an invigorating 45 degrees Farenheit.

It's not that the decon chamber is cold, just that the decon gel is specially formulated for her pleasure.

I'm with jason, I like how the new show is looking. From the look of their web page, they're putting a lot of work to help us relate to it.

Galactica looks like it's still under construction or had a bad fire or something....but that IS how they made it. [Confused]
