You know, if we're ever going to get a Stargate forum, we actually have to post some Stargate messages! [Roll Eyes]

$$$MAJOR SPOILERS$$$

Unfortunately, I missed the first 15 minutes of this, but I caught most of what happened. There were some major changes here, as expected. Let's see if I can hit the high points:

Hammond is in charge of "Homeworld Security" now, which means he presides over the SGC, the X-303 project, the Ancient base, and maybe a couple of others I can't remember.

It's now Brigadier General O'Neill, and he's in charge of the SGC.

Carter also gets a promotion to Lieutenant Colonel.

Thor's new (small) ship is the Daniel Jackson. Personally, I would have thought he would have named the next ship after Carter for her "stupid idea".

Baal now has control over Anubis' troops and tech, and the other Goa'uld are scared. They know of Earth's new powerful weapon, and try to coerce us into killing Baal for them.

A Goa'uld named Camulus has asked for asylum on Earth since his domain has already been wiped out.

Yu is still around, but it seems obvious that his fully human personal slave (I think - might be his First Prime) is running things in his name.

The replicator Fifth is back, and first wants revenge for what Carter did, but then he falls in love with her. At the end, he creates a replicant Carter as a companion. Of course, this isn't the first time Carter's been duplicated, but that was by someone else.

After Thor revives O'Neill, Jack manages to create a new weapon against the replicators before again having to wipe his Ancient memories. It's very effective.

And of course, with Jack's promotion, Dr. Weir moves on to things more suited to her skills, namely in charge of the research on the Ancient outpost.

No sign of the rebel Jaffa or the Tok'ra in this episode.

Whew! I hope I got everything! Even though there are a lot of changes, it still looks like a very good season coming up.

I loved it and it really sucks that there's no new SG-1 this week in favor of the Atlantis premiere.

The Atlantis premiere is essentially a crossover with SG-1, though right? There will be alot of involvement from SG-1 characters and a good portion will take place in the SGC, right? You can probably consider it a half and half episode [Smile]

Not good enough!

Well, we got two episodes of SG-1 on Friday, and we'll have the two-hour premiere of Atlantis this week. It all averages out, since we'll have one of each every week from this point on. [Smile]

What Canadian channel airs the new SG1 episodes? Or, are there any other US channels that air SG1 besides Sci-Fi? I don't get the Movie network, so I won't be able to watch Atlantis. [Frown]

My guess is that Sci-Fi is the only station that broadcasts first runs of the episodes. But in my area of Michigan, FOX plays reruns. They're still on the inter-Jackson episodes. Don't remember what season it was that he was ascended.

The only Canadian channel that regularly broadcasts SG-1 is SPACE, the equivalent to Sci-Fi (but burdened with the usual Canadian content regulations). Global USED to broadcast SG-1 first-run while it was still being produced for Showtime, but no one has done first-run since the end of the fifth season as a result. I've been surviving on downloads until I can get the DVDs. Seventh season this fall!

Inter-Jackson was s6. Hmm. Guess I'll have to wait until the fall when I'll be able to download the episodes.

Suit yourself - I, for one, can't wait. [Smile]

Anyhoo, I liked it. The opener very strongly promoted the new dynamic between Carter, Teal'c and Jackson now that O'Neill will be even less prevalent than before. I believe the idea is that O'Neill wants to keep SG-1 as a three-person team so he can go along on occasion, though I don't know how USAF regs do this (aren't Generals supposed to remain off the front lines?).

Camulus as a defector (such as it is) is a very interesting idea. He's no Tok'ra, though I'm sure they'd like to sink their claws into him (to say nothing of any rebel Jaffa, or survivors from Camulus' own fleet). But I'd severely doubt we'll see him don an SGC uniform and go off saving the universe - he's still a Goa'uld, and I think everyone knows he's staying here only because it's convenient to him and us for now. I'm looking forward to how they'll develop that particular plot point. Steve Bacic is a decent actor (utterly wasted now as a yes-man on Andromeda, after his original cooler character was killed off TWICE) and I hope he'll be put to good use here, after a couple minor turns as SG-2's Major Coburn.

I'm surprised no mention was made on-screen of Weir's sudden facelift and hair change, since thye usually do fun throwaway line like that ("Teal'c, what's with the hair?" [Smile] ). Too bad Jessica Steen (yum) couldn't stick around for the premiere and Atlantis, but Torri Higginson (yum) will do rather nicely IMO. Her character is put to good use here - demanding Ba'al's territory after defeating him for the other System Lords is something Hammond would NEVER even think of bluffing for! It makes the wait for Atlantis even more fun.

I would download episodes now if I could, but as I only have dialup (and a dying hard drive), I can't really download them in any expedient manner.

Yeah, I really didn't expect Weir to have that much testicular fortitude. It even caught Daniel off guard. Of course, that was a major bluff, considering that the outpost weapon is non-functional now. Did they ever explain why they couldn't get it to work again?

As for Camulus, I was wondering why he looked vaguely familiar. Since I only watch Andromeda when there is absolutely nothing else to do, it's understandable why I can't immediately pick him out.

BTW, did anyone else catch the promos for the Farscape miniseries (coming in October) and Battlestar Galactica (starting in January)? *drool*

Y'know, for a guy who died in the FIRST EPISODE, Bacic has had quite a bit of screen time. He probably appeared on screen more than Brent Strait did, even before becoming a regular. [Smile]

Anybody know how to pronounce that, BTW? "BA-chik"?

Did they ever explain why they couldn't get it to work again?

O'Neill was the only one that could run it, due to the Ancient stuff in his head. Or so I understand. I think they explain in Atlantis a bit about using Ancient tech, so we'll probably get an explination soon.

I think it's prounounced just like basic.

"I think they explain in Atlantis a bit about using Ancient tech, so we'll probably get an explination soon."

Well, if anyone's looking for spoilers:

I think I read somewhere that "Atlantis" will explain that only certain people are even capable of operating the Ancient machinery, because of something in their DNA.

And next episode, some alien force takes over people's bodies. OH MAN! On SG-1? The well is overflowing!

(I liked the premiere a lot, though I wish the idea of Earth, or at least the United States, taking over the territory of a defeated system lord would actually be explored a little. But who knows, perhaps it will be.)
