SciFi Channel showed 4 Lawn and Order SVU episodes tonight.

Why?

Have you ever seen an episode of L&O: SVU?

Obviously they're trying to raise awareness about proper lawn care techniques...

NBC Universal, is why. The shinier reverse of this principle had Battlestar Galactica showing up on NBC itself last year.

Yes. My wife and I watch the entire franchise. NBC, Bravo, TNT, USA...

But not SciFi.

I've heard a lot of complaints about the staff at SciFi, and this is icing on the cake, in my opinion. These are the kinds of things other networks started to do before they had format changes.

There are lots of dramas I/we enjoy (we also watch "Closer and were disappointed over the apparent cancellation of "Kojak") and there are plenty of other networks out there to support these style of shows.

But so far there is only one SciFi channel. And it has gotten progressively diluted since it's first airing.

LOL@ the Lawn part. I thought I fixed that typo.

Never really got into L&O in any of its incarnations. Round about 1990 BBC1 used to show it quite late on a Monday night, then it vanished from the airwaves. Nowadays most of the shows are on cable/satellite channels, although Five shows them as well.

That said, when in New Zealand we did on occasion watch all three of the then-extant shows. Our preferred one was Criminal Intent. My wife likes it because apparently Vincent D'Onofrio reminds her of me. I'm not sure how I feel about that - sure, he's good-looking in an unconventional way, and a terrific actor, but I will forever look at him and feel this strange urge to yell "PRIVATE PYLE, WHAT IS YOUR MAJOR MALFUNCTION?!"

I always see him as Edgar, the redneck hill rat from Men In Black. I keep waiting for centipedes to crawl out of his shirt.

His partner's a babe, though.

She's the creepy murderess that was on Death Row in Oz.

There are a few I've noticed on L&O (not that I watch the show) that were in Oz. The Chinese Priest is in SVU and of course the main guy in SVU was in Oz. I'm sure I've also seen the Nun on one of the L&O shows.

The wheelchair guy is of course Michael in Lost. Who I didn't realise until seeing a short clip a few weeks ago was also in Romeo + Juliette. (And of course The Matrix).

From the SciFi BB...

Earlier this month we discovered that SCI FI will be airing wrestling on May 30th...

And now they'll be airing "L&O" on May 4th...

SCI FI Schedulebot Link

What a *great* science fiction program....Grrr...can someone please fire Bonnie Hammer and put someone in charge of this channel who knows the definition of SCI FI?! I wish CHUM Media would buy SCI FI away from NBC Universal as it seems Canada's SPACE Channel gets it right but the suits at NBC Universal are content to air Watchers Reborn et al a million times while forsaking their namesake genre in the neverending quest for ratings.
If I turn on Comedy Central, I don't want to see The Godfather or Terminator 2. And if I turn on SCI FI, I expect to see science fiction programming, not Braveheart (it's been played in the past) or wrestling or L&O.
Look, I enjoy the occasional movie on SCI FI; I like Battlestar Galactica and I'm enjoying Doctor Who. I'm no troll. I've been a member of this BBoard since 1997. It just pains me to see how far SCI FI has fallen. The ship needs to be righted, badly. But as it is now, SCI FI is now a shell of its former self and it's sad; the emperor truly has no clothes.

Wrestling?

WRESTLIING?????

Someone else posted on the SciFi board my the sentiments I was trying to express above.

I don't tune into Comedy Central to watch The Godfather or Terminator. When I tune into SciFi Channel, I expect to see Science Fiction, not a modern day police drama.

And now they're showing wrestling?

Well, it is fiction...

What one of the wrestling guys dresses up as an alien? And his made-up backstory is that he's here to invade the human race and steal the energy of earth's greatest warriors by defeating them in personal combat...

I also don't consider most horror movies to be sci-fi, which is what they've been showing a lot of recently. Wasn't Bonnie the same one that canned Farscape?

I think I saw that episode of Voyager...

"Tsunkatse"

Only, the Rock didn't threaten Earth...

The Space Channel in Canada is a very good Sci-Fi channel. I watch it a lot less now a days due to the fact that a lot of the programming just doesn't interest me. They used to have some very good shows on there. Like Farscape, and the X-Files, and All the Star Trek series one after another. Now they have shows like The 4400, and Hex, and I just don't like them.

Now I watch Spike Tv for my Star Trek fix, 2 episodes of DS9 followed by 3 of TNG. Every weekday, That's a lot of Trek!

Whoa! Spike is finally airing DS9? That was my major beef for a long time was that Spike nor SPACE ever aired DS9...

Posted by Da_bang80 (Member # 528) on :

Spike had DS9 for a long time, a couple years now. 2 episodes every day monday-friday. Space doesn't air DS9 anymore. Odd, since they still have Voyager on TWICE a day.

While we're on the topic of TV, I just want to say that I hate what happened to TLC. It used to be The Learning Channel, and was similar to Discovery. Now They have things like "What Not TO Wear" and "Trading Spaces". I now call it "The Lame Channel".

Posted by Lee (Member # 393) on :

Trading Spaces? I'm guessing this is the US version of Changing Rooms?

Posted by Sol System (Member # 30) on :

Yes.

Posted by Lee (Member # 393) on :

Shouldn't it have been called Pimp My Homie's Crib or something?

Posted by Sol System (Member # 30) on :

Come to think of it, I don't think there is a "hip" version of this on MTV. Granted, the tween to twenty-five demographic doesn't typically have much in the way of real estate, but still.

Now to write a letter to Viacom. . .

Posted by Lee (Member # 393) on :

We now actually have Pimp My Ride UK. It's nowhere near as fun as the original, which was another show we got into while in NZ. That, and American Chopper. I've just found out that my Freeview digital set-top box doesn't have a slot for the top-up-TV card required in order to get extra channels like Discovery, meaning I can't watch AC or MythBusters anymore.

I recall when the Discovery channel actually showed science relate programs.

Waaaay back.

When TLC was not just a home redecorating channel.

I remember when MTV actually showed music videos!

Hey, its not just redecorating, there's midgets and rabbis too.
