The highlight of both SG1 and SGA, it seems, will be the return of Richard Dean Anderson to both shows as General O'Neill. Oddly, he's doing only two episodes on SG-1, before jetting over to Atlantis for three (one of which is a two parter, though).
Even MORE interestingly is the upcoming 200th episode, appropriately-entitled "200". This will involve Jack, the team, and a returning guest character named Martin Lloyd - in what promises to be the most in-joked episode of Stargate since, well, the last one he was in.

My wife and I are about to buy seaon 8 of SG-1 and Season 1 of Atlantis. We plan on watching alternating episodes in a giant, month-long geek fest.

But dammit, what about Galactica? We still have to wait another three months for the conclusion of the most important of the three cliffhangers!

Yeah, my wife was under the impression that all three shows returned tonight. You did *not* want to be near her when I told her she'd have to wait until October for Galactica.

Hey, be aware that the eighth SG1 and first SGA seasons ARE meant to be watched concurrently, but not necessarily week-after-week. I would recommend the following order to maintain continuity as some plot points in one show are directly influenced by events in the other.
SG1 "New Order" (two parter) SG1 "Lockdown"
SGA "Rising" (telemovie) SGA "Hide and Seek"
You can at this point watch the episodes alternatively, starting with SG1 "Zero Hour", then SGA "Thirty-Eight Minutes", and so on. Note that SGA has a mid-season two-parter, though, while SG1 does not this season. Anyway, when you get towards the end, both shows have a tight, continuing story arc over its last five episodes. Still, I'd recommend watching the ends of both seasons in this order:
SG1 "Citizen Joe" SGA "Before I Sleep"
SG1 "The Reckoning" Parts I and II SG1 "Threads"
SGA "The Brotherhood" SGA "Letters from Pegasus" SGA "The Gift"
SG1 "Moebius", Parts I and II SGA "The Seige", Parts I and II
Strictly-speaking, only "Threads" should definitely be watched right after "The Reckoning", and "The Seige" is dependent somewhat on the adventures in "Moebius". Episodes like "Zero Hour" and "Letters From Pegasus" have small continuity references which are okay in the recommended order.
Likewise, "Rising" can go at any point after "New Order", but personally I'd like to give it a couple episodes and allow a viewer to become accustomed to the roles we see in "Rising". IMO watching "Rising" right after "New Order" gives things a sort of "jumping too quickly into things" feel to Atlantis.
