Hmmm... I really need to watch BG on DVD.

Yes you do.

Should I watch the old one or just stick with the remake?
(Reverend, I just now in my stupidity noticed your tagline, and I approve.)

Is it me or is BG taking a fairly radical turn away from its original premise? I mean, its a great show, but it doesnt seem much like a war or a desperate flee for humanity as much as it is a look into the social interactions and love triangles on a big ship.
I watch the show crossing my fingers waiting for something to blow up half the time.

The premise is the same, it's just the focus that's different. I mean what do you think all those people are doing on those ship while they're "desperately fleeing"? Knitting scarves?
As for the war aspect, as Roslin points out the war is over, they lost and the same was true in the original series, though they didn't seam to notice after they morn their losses at the space casino.

I think people need to realize that we're focusing on the military in BSG, with fighter jocks and jarheads and all the personalities that come with that. I'm sure the civilian population has been dealing with things quite differently.

Well what I read of the initial plot outline makes it seem like a soap opera. I mean BSG does it as well, but the soap opera-ness is balanced well with the cool space fights, so it doesn't seem like a soap.
Here's the plot outline I got off of IMDB, which seems to be how I remember it ages ago. Just drag over the blank space below just in case anyone doesn't want to know the starting plot of it.
Two families, the Graystones and the Adamas, live together on a peaceful planet known as Caprica, where a startling breakthrough in artificial intelligence brings about unforeseen consequences. A spin-off of the Sci Fi Channel series "Battlestar Galactica" set 50 years prior to the events of that show.

I have no idea why I'm so awed by your seemingly magic marker text. This is all new to me.
