Can any one out there in TV LAND tell me the exact quote and film it's from that deliniates ship speed in the movies?
How did they get the answer you cite?

Win!
To be honest, I don't think there are any speed quotes at all along the lines of "distance/time". They rarely say those two things seperatly anyway.
The closest I can think of to an actual speed quote is when Han says of the Millenium Falcon that "she'll make .5 past light speed". But this is a man who regularly confuses distance with time, so I wouldn't trust him with anything.

1.5c wouldn't get them across the galaxy in days, would it? Unless they have really small solar systems, so it seems strange. In 1.5c, it would take the Falcon two minutes from Earth to Sol, right?
Secondly, I hope you're not referring to the parsec-line, because both you and I know that has been dealt with.

I was. And I know. Although giving a choice between:
1/ "The Kessel Run is like this really hard thing with black holes and it requires a lot of hard navigation and what Han meant is he managed to plot a really short course through the black holes which shows just how good him and his ship is;
and...
2/ "I make up bollocks to try and fool stupid people"
I go for the second. In fact, I'd stick that line right next to the parsec one under the catagory of "Han saying impressive sounding things to fool stupid punters". It's either that or the "official" explanation that "The Falcon has a 0.5hyperdrive which is twice as fast as the 1.0 found in Star Destroyers", which is plainly not what Han said.

Five, actually. Which, for interstellar travel, would be ever-so-slightly on the slow side.

Make it six and I'll throw in a Blaupunkt.
Psyliam: I just go with the Phileas Fogg-angle. I said to my newly-initiated friend (who spotted the parsec thingy all by himself) that the Kessel run was like "Around the world in 80 days" and whoever does it the most effectively gets the best customers. He said "Oh right, neat!" and then everyone was pleased and slept well that night because hard nerds stood ready to do violence on their behalf.

I dunno. Do you see Obi-Wan's face after Solo says that line. He's all like "hey, 12 parsecs? You're a shitting kidder, aren't you? You kooky little twatmunch."

I'm trying to imagine Sir Alec Guinness saying the word "twatmunch", but I can't get past the giggles.
