Ok, So I walked into Chapters today. (I've never seen a bookstore take up a whole building, ya, I come from a piddly ass town) And I saw these New Essential Guides books. And damn they look nice. They cover all the movies and some of the New Jedi Order stuff such as the Yuuzhan Vong worldship and Anakins organic starship thing from that Rogue Planet book. The pictures are computer generated, not those craptastic sketches from the old books. Too bad it's like $30 Cdn. I decided to get The Bear and the Dragon and Patriot Games instead...

How new are the "NEW" essential guides? I've been waiting for a version to come out encompassing the Episode III stuff... Them starships from the opening battle scream for some good schmatics or at least a decent 3/4 view...

The New Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels is oudated and does not contain info on episode 3 vehicles and vessels. The New Essential Chronology is a better buy. Granted it too has become obsolete since it does not cover the "Swarm War" and "Legacy of the Force" Novels. However, it serves as a good background guide from which you could start getting into the Expanded Universe. So buy that better.

It's been out for more than a year, Revenge of the Sith: Incredible Cross Sections. And yes, the Venator-class Star Destroyer/Fighter Carrier gets a show, a three-page centerfold.

I still think it was very ass of George to completely ignore the EU Victorys.

As though he's making any of these decisions personally.

He specifically opted to use Tim Zahn's name for the Republic captiol world from Zahn's Heir to the Empire novel trilogy -- Coruscant. Said so in interviews. Specifically opted to ignore the background(s) created for Boba Fett and the Mandalorians in the E.U. materials. Said so in interviews. Like that. He knows about a lot of this stuff, and chose instead to go with new material.

Well it is his universe, he can pick and choose whatever he wants, plus I think he pays his conceptial artists quite allot of money to come up with new stuff.
And for the record, the Star Destroyer they used in the film was far more interesting than that silly looking knocked together Victory-Class. But that's just me.

I gotta agree with Rev. Never really liked the Victory.

Anybody here like the Interdictor ? I love its big bulbous gravity well generators.

I do, but I think I like it more for the low, wide bridge.

The only weird thing I found about the Venator-class shown in Ep.III was that it was supposed to be a successor to the Victory, which was never shown in Ep.II (although I liked the AOTC Acclamator-class and its landing ability).
So then why have we never seen the Venator in later adventures, yet the Vic will be good enough for Thrawn in his early days? I like what they tried to do with the red and orange ship colors in ROTS, though. The whole 70's/80's design philosophy felt good.
Speaking of that, went to the Stockholm sci-fi convention last saturday. A lot of nice things to be found in the booths, but this thing got me misty-eyed, never had that one. Cost like 500 dollars. Accomplished my mission though; Shook lobster with Lou Ferrigno and asked Sean Astin what he thought of "Taters".mp3.

Funny that. I just handed over my Ewok Village, Speeder Bike, and various figures to my 6-year-old son. I'm of the mind that toys should be *played* with.
And why was that $500? The ones on ebay don't even top $40.

B-wing cool. I got Forces of Corruption and the B-wing is a pretty much a Star Destroyer killer.

$500? Hardly. If you pay more than $150 for a mint B-Wing, you're paying too much. In my opinion, if youre wanting to display or play with it, a loose complete B-Wing (with or without stickers) is plenty sufficient. Reproductions of the sticker sheets can easily be found online.

It also had to do with inflation.
