So this friday will mark the 30th anniversary of Star Wars IV: A New Hope. I heard the DJ on the radio talking about while the opening score was playing in the background. I wonder of Georgie's having a big party about it. I hope so, because Star Wars has been a part of me ever since I was born. It would be a shame not to celebrate something that's brought happiness to me and millions of other people in the world.

I was there! I saw Star Wars the first weekend it opened. I saw it about 10 times that summer. I took anyone I could drag along. I completely lost my mind.

I wasn't alive at the time, but it was on ITV just about every x-mas in the 80's so I got to see it plenty. of course never got to see it on the big screen until '97 and that was the not so Special Edition at the Salisbury Odeon. Somehow I feel I've missed out on the "experience".

The first time I saw it I was completely blown away. I probably didn't blink for two hours. I'd only seen the newspaper ads and read the review in Time magazine proclaiming it the year's best movie. I hadn't seen any trailers on TV. I had no idea what I would see. The whole damn United States reacted the same way.
The first scene of Star Wars (the boarding of Leia's ship) remains my favorite scene in any movie.
Unfortunately, I think the internet has ruined movies for me.

I must admit I miss watching a movie with only the vaguest notion of what it's about and getting a pleasant surprise. I think the last time that happened was "True Romance" which remains one of my favourites (same deal for Leon, Donnie Darko & Ghost in the Shell.)
These days if a "Big" movie comes out you can't get away from all the trailers, tv spots, posters, internet banners and (if you're a AICN visiting film geek like me) pre-release reviews and script spoilers.
I have promised myself that I'll try not to watch anything to do with the new Batman film when they start promoting that later this year, but I doubt I have the will power.
Yeah, back on topic. Anyone want to place bets how long before they release ANOTHER limited edition - never to be relesed again special DVD set with Ewan McGregor's face CG'd over Alec Guinness's? Aren't they doing a Star Wars TV show too? I'd be surprised if that turns out to be any good.

An entire new series where no one of importance on either side will die, just a bunch of expendable droids and endless posturing.
With ILM and Lucasfilm behind it, I would've thought it would be at least more detailed than The Incredibles, but Yoda, Kenobi and Anakin look even cruder than Toy Story.

I wondered that myself as I see Obi-wan flying the Ep.II Jedi starfighter with Ep.III Venators in the background. Furthermore it looks like the CIS have what a appears to be a precursor to the Death Star.

I don't know, there was a fairly big time jump between the first and second halves of the cartoon series. There's plenty of stories to be told there. To be bad The Force Unleashed won't be making it to the PC, at least not yet. There will be one for the PSP, but so far most of the Star Wars games on that handheld haven't been that great.

I don't know, I kind of liked X-Wing Alliance best. Maybe because it had more of a story, perhaps it was the ability to lock the camera onto a target from inside the cockpit, either I remember really enjoying that one. The only thing that let it down was the irritating Battle of Endor mission at the end. I can't remember if the family story was actually resolved or not or if it was cut short with the Death Star II mission.

Yeah, I can't remember either. It's been quite a while since I've played Alliance. I remember the ship models being particularly poor. But there's a group of people making some high quality replacements. Not sure how far along they've come since the last time I've checked, but they had about 75% of all the models redone. And they really looked damn nice.

Well, Celebration started the Wednesday before with a marathon of all six films. Thursday was a Fan-Club-only day. The general convention started on Friday, with a big opening ceremonies event that evening. They served birthday cake to almost six thousand people.
They would have served more, as the hall wasnt full yet, but there was a bomb scare and the rest of the L.A. convention center was evacuated across the street whilst the bomb squad was called. This all took place over the course of about forty-five minutes. Jen was working crowd control in the lobby outside the hall this was taking place in, and I was holding our spot in line outside. I was within fifty feet of the front doors when they stopped letting people in, and there were still about three thousand people behind me. Plus, anyone who left the hall to go to the bathroom got evac'ed, no matter who they were. There were a lot of pissed off people, let me tell you.
No one inside was told a thing. They carried on as planned, so as to not cause a panic.
What caused the problem? There was a Hummer parked in the wrong place for too long. For that we missed the fucking party.

Oh, and funny story here.
I and my brothers once played it cooperatively, with one of us opertaing one of the control areas, we blowed up the Star Destroyer Anton or whatever sent for real good, then when the mission called for us to go to another system, who should appear but the self-same Star Destroyer we blew up!
A line of dialogue we made up:
Us:"Hey, didn't we kill you guys?" Them:"Yes, it was very uncomfortable."
