We had my retirement ceremony at work today. We had a picnic outside the offices and they presented me with a flag that had been flown over the Capitol (of the U.S.) and a couple of plaques and a couple of letters congratulating me on my successful completion of 20 years' service, one signed by the Commander-in-Chief and the other by the Secretary of the Air Force.
I've only got a few more items to check off my outprocessing checklist, and I can't do anything else until the day before I final out on Wednesday, so Monday's a bit of a holiday for me.
I feel like I should say something clich�d like, "today is the beginning of the rest of your life" or something like it...but I won't.

I'm currently in outprocessing limbo. They haven't finished making copies of my medical and dental records and my termination of security paperwork is locked in an office that no-one has the key to except someone who got sick and was sent home.
We're scheduled to pick up where we left off on the 16th. In the meantime I'm on permissive TDY.

TDY stands for "Temporary DutY". Permissive TDY allows you to do things like house hunting or job hunting and stuff like that. You usually are allowed to take it in conjunction with a PCS (Permanent Change of Station -- getting assigned to another base), separation from the service, or retirement, which is pretty similar to separation except you get retirement pay.
