I found this nifty map at the Discovery channel website.

View from 35785 km above 0N 0W

By panning and zooming, I found where I live! The resolution is pretty bad once you zoom in closer than about 50 km, but if you can find where you live, post a link to the final image.

Here's Clovis: View from 49 km above 3433'N 10335'W.

Clovis is the brighter of the two dots near the center of the map. Cannon AFB is the lesser light just to the left, while Portales is the one just below the pair. The two bright concentrations to the right are Amarillo (above) and Lubbock (Below) Texas, each of which is approximately 100 miles away from here.

Here's Me. Or at least, I should be just a bit to the south of that central black blotch.

Just go to terraserver.microsoft.com

You may even see your house...or some guy flipping the camera off... :-)

I've found my house on TerraServer. IIRC, the picture was taken before I lived here, but the house was still there. :-)

Here's a link to it: http://terraserver.microsoft.com/

Oh, that simplifies things a lot! They don't even have where I live in their database. If you look carefully, you'll notice that they have only a tiny fraction of the Earth's surface mapped. If you can find your house, good for you, but I can't even find the town I live in. Why? It's not in their map files.

We're somewhere in there, but I can't find our house even in just a 35000 pop town.. christ.

Area 51 in Nevada? Good! The cover story is still intact!

The actual location of Area 51 is...

Hmmm... There's a black sedan parked outside and two gentlemen wearing black business suits are approaching my front door. I'll be right back.

You never saw this post. You will forget that Area 51 could possibly be anywhere except the state of Nevada. Go about your business.

Well, not only does Terraserver STILL not have anything south of San Jose and north of Santa Cruz, but now I cant' even *FIND* San Jose, they're SO cut back on their maps...

Same here. I can get within a 1/2 mile or so of my house, then the maps end.

So what you're saying, Charles, is that Microsoft doesn't know the way to San Jose?
