I have a small predicament. I want to burn a couple of MP3s to a CD. Can I do that and play them on a regular CD player or do I have to convert the MP3s to WAV or something in order to do that?

I believe they must be converted to a *.cda file

It depends on the software. I think the latest version of Adaptec Toast can convert MP3s directly. Oh, wait. Seriously, check the manual.

Well, a Mac would've included the manual.

You have to convert them to wav , and burn them onto a certain type of CDR disk , there are two types , you have to buy the kinds with the Bottom painted blue , I think , just read the back of the box of CD you buy

The orignial CDR disk could only be played on a CDR drive , the new one can be played on any regular CD player.

Winamp has a Disk Writer plugin (Plugins/Output) that
converts the current mp3 to the correct WAV format for audio cd use. It's easy and fun :P

The "proper" solution:
Get Adaptec's Easy CD Writer 4 Deluxe package
Use included software (Easy Tracker, or something like that) to burn the MP3s right on the disk.

If you are using other software, you'll have to convert the MP3s to WAV first, then burn the WAVs to audio.

BTW, the *.cda file is how Windows sees audio tracks, you can't actually create them.

You may wish to use CDRs marked as designed for audio. I can personally recommend the Memorex 80 minute ones.

Personally, I find that the "special" audio CDRs aren't any better than the normal Kodak Gold CDRs I use anyways..
Here is a good FAQ on this stuff, http://www.fadden.com/cdrfaq/
warning its blinking huge.

I agree with CC.

Adaptec CD Writer deluxe can has it built in.. Converts any MP3 or Wav to *.cda format so that you can play it in a regular CD Player.

If you don't have it .. get it..

But isn't it only compatible with certain burners CC??

Well, I screwed around with my burner last night. Ruined one CD, and the second one is now my play disk. Really wish I had a RW though..

BTW - The burner is a RW one.

RW disks don't always read right in older CD drives.

I use Nero, just Drag'n'Drop the MP3's to your compilation and Nero converts them on the spot. At 8 speed, if you have a fast enough PC and an 8 speed burner (like me ).

http://www.ahead.de

I'll check if CD-RW's are readable by 'normal' audio equipment right now...

*checks*

Well, my Sony Hi-Fi tower can read the CD-RW, but it has a lot of trouble maintaining the sound stream. It skips a few seconds of the songs a lot.

I do know that Philips has a new line of portable CD-players which can read CD-RW's.
