OK, I may regret asking however I'd like to know what motherboard you folks would recommend for an ATX case with a celeron 500 processor. It needs preferably 4 ram thingys, 5 pci slots, 1 agp slot and a nice fast bus speed.

If anyone says intel 810, I'll shoot them.

Don't waste your time with a Celeron, the socket is a dead end path.

Celeron? YUCK!

Go get yourself an Athlon.

Bah! Bah to you ALL! I have a computer guy who owns a business, and he says Celerons are fine...

All I can say is stay away from PC100 motherboards. They're crap! Although, the company has changed its name from PC100 to something else...

The Celeron itself is fine, but the socket is a dead end. I use an older Celeron that came as a slot... I have an upgrade path. The socketed Celerons don't have an upgrade path. Go with an Athlon or P3.

Ahh see I ask aboot motherboards and I get guys talking celeron. Here's the thing, I already HAVE a celeron based pc. I just want to upgrade the motherboard.

Now, with that in mind, can you answer the original question?

Well, lets deal with the opinions in order.

The Celeron does use a socket which is a dead-end path. The question is whether you care. Even if you get a new motherboard, who knows what Intel will do down the road. Does the Pentium 4 use the same Slot 1? Someone answer that, I honestly don't know.
Back to the point, I got an Asus P2B-F, one of the early Pentium 2 motherboards, right now I have a P-350...I can upgrade all the way to a P3-500...whoo hoo, go upgrading processors. (sarcasm)

The reason? Even if the newer chips fit in the slot, I don't have the proper multiplier jumper settings...grrr...

Wait a sec, I'm still rambling.

Anyways, if you're into gaming you could get one of those Asus dual Celeron motherboards...

The Pentium III doesn't use Slot 1 now, let alone the P4. It's all on facny socket thingies.

Anyway, how many Mothboards can get you past even one CPU upgrade? My PII mothbaord (for a PII 333) could handle a PIII 600, I think. But after that, it'll be a new motherboard time. Which is expensive.

And I doubt that Daryus has money to through on an Athalon and Mothboard. He spends all his day on the farm milking those cows for every drop, and still gets paid dirt. Poor lad.

Umm no cows here. You must have me confused with The Amazing Daryus. Liam does however have a point, (I know, its such a rare occurance we all nearly missed it, luckily I am an intellectual titan) I do have many other things to throw money at. So if anyone (I repeat) knows of a motherboard which takes a celeron 500 and has the abovementioned qualities, please shout.(The answer, don't just shout in general).
