Join me in celebrating the 75th birthday of one of the true greats in jazz, Miles Davis.

He joined with Bill Evans, John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, among others to create one of the best discs of any genre with "Kind of Blue" in 1959. He help usher in a new way to look at jazz improvisation as he and his groups pioneered modal jazz, the West Coast "cool" jazz (as opposed to "hot" jazz characterized by Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker's bebop).

He also made serious inroads into newer jazz concepts in the late 60's and early 70's as he moved toward "fusion" jazz. For a feel of this period, one might look at the 1970 disc, "Bitches Brew,".

Miles Davis died in 1991.
